To get the best for your cat take it to the vet. There are different types of worms which require different types of de wormer. You need to know which types of worms it has so you know what de wormer to use.

My 2 cats are indoor/outdoor cats. I give them de-worming medicine every 3 months. I do get it from a vet. Every vet I've ever spoken to says the over-the-counter types are not as effective as what you get at the vets...I don't think they are saying that just for the business. I treat them for roundworms as a preventive measure. Roundworms can be ingested from the prey they sometimes eat. The roundworms stay in the digestive tract and look like a piece of spaghetti. In an earlier stage of life, they can be found in the feces or around the anal area and look like pieces of rice. But there are many types of worms and each medication is geared toward a specific worm. My medication costs $10 every 3 months...thats 2 doses (oral) per cat times twice (2 doses 3 weeks apart). So it's $5 per cat. Find a vet who won't charge you an office call. Here is a good link that willl tell you more about worms.

You can get de-wormer over-the-counter at most pet supply stores but you have to be extremely cautious. there are different types of worms and require different medications to treat them. If you have expereinced these worms and know which ones they are then it would probably be cost effective to purchase the over-the-counter varieties. however, if you have ANY doubt as to what type of worm that you are dealing with, seek a diagnosis from a vet. It will be better in the long run to treat the worms properly then to have a more serious problem resulting from complications with the medication...or worse the death of you cat. Just be careful and use common sense. If you don't know what you are treating go to the vet.

Look for Nemex or something with pyrantel pamoate in it. That is the most common wormer for puppies and kittens. It worms for roundworms and hookworms. Usually you give it every 14 days for a total of 4 doses.
For tapeworm, there is a product called Tradewinds. It sells 3 tablets to a bottle for cats I think. The dosage is based on weight.

Where can you get cat de-wormer? You can get cat de-wormer at your local pet supply shop. I don't like getting it from there because it is normally more expensive so I get it at my local grocery store such as WINCO or Hank's Thriftway. I have also gotten it from BiMart and Target. Any store with a pet aisle.

Walmart, grocery store, pharmacies, Pet's Mart, online...... but do you know what worms you are treating for?.... there are various types. Go to online pet store and read, best solution if you won't take the poor thang to the vet.
