Why must we press 1 to proceed in English?

Question

Tell me why it is that America bends over backwards for foreigners? When I lived in Germany, I had to learn to speak german and had to understand many of the customs. The same for France. The French will not desicrate their culture or language for anyone. Why do the american people do this. If you are going to come to this country then learn the language and the customs. That means speak english and Christianity is what we believe in. But do not come here expecting me to bend over backwards to accomidate you in my own country.

Maybe I should have stated that Our family was stationed in germany on a US military base. And yes I am of german heritage. My great grandfather arrived at ellis island in 1903. He had to learn English to survive. If he could do it. So should anyone else wanting to move to this country.

Now now. Name calling is not the reason for this question. Latin people are not stupid, or lazy. they are hard working and have a rich culture. I have many hispanic friends. (they speak english and have the same view on this subject as I do.) Most just want to maintain that culture and feel that to assimilate would rob them of that. As stated above I just don't think we should pander to them or anyone else immigrating to america. Learn the language.

Oh and Jingle. Your statement is completely inaccurate. In France, Japan, and Russia they have many different culturs there. But guess what. To get around they learn the language.

Ignore the people who decided to attack you for asking a good question. I have often wondered that myself. I don't understand why Americans are considered racist or stupid because they want to hold onto their culture but Mexicans, French, German, etc. are good for wanting to hold onto theirs. I too have been to Germany and it is expected that you speak their language when you live there. It's that way in Mexico too. I guess it's the price we have to pay for being a rich country and a dominant superpower. People can't take us down militarily so they try to do it from the inside out by desecrating our culture. They are going to find that Americans are more resilient than they thought.

To Jingle above me: France is not composed of only French people. In fact they have a large number of African and Middle Eastern immigrants. Haven't you heard of the riots that they had this year? Also, France has ruled that Muslim girls cannot wear their hijabs in the public schools. A big part of this is to protect French culture.

It is however a country if ignoramuses that think English is the national language.

Let me explain a thing or two to you. If you are so proud of your country, the United States of America, why do you fail to realize that this country was invaded by immigrants. This country was built by immigrants.

What a stupid sentiment for YOU to have. Good for you for learning German when you lived in Germany.

This country, if NO other is a melting pot. This is not white man monolingual land that so many of you seem to think.

Those that live in large cities in the U.S. know that many government notices, many publications are in many other languages than English.

The sentiment of 'don't speak your language here' type , in my experience are from gybyp America and know of no other language than English.

I do take some comfort in knowing people are in such an uproar though.

Numbers and now culture are overpowering the traditional in this country. Get used to it, America is soon going to be very VERY brown and Very Very multi-lingual.

Besides, what is so hard about lifting a finger to push a number.

I understand what you're saying. I actually had this conversation with someone recently, & it seems pretty ridiculous that in a nation of English-speaking people we have to go through prompts just to hear a recording in our native language. This is not to say that other cultures/languages are not respected, but I do feel that if you come to live in this country you can learn the language! If I moved to Europe I would learn the language of the country I live in, and it should be the same thing in the U.S. This country does respect diversity, but if you come to live here it is only logical (& easier for the immigrant in the long run) to learn the English language.

Because many illegals vote and put in place laws to encourage their national language be spoken in America to make it more difficult for Americans to recognise an illegal. This language is forced on American children, and make it is for these criminals to continue to pull the wool over American Citizens eyes.
I used to donate to PBS but when I turn on the station there is nothing but Mexican soap opera's. Classes to teach Spanish, and I've stopped allowing my grandson to watch Sesame Street because they teach Spanish as America's second Language, and it is not. Even our President has made it clear that Spanish is not the language of Americans.
I am urging more Americans to write PBS and tell them that they will not see another dime in donations until these corrections are made. This is a public broadcast station, they will get the hint easily. Americans will no longer pander to illegals.
Our language will be spoken, or you will not be able to function in America. Just like when I went to Mexico, if I wanted to get around I had to learn the language. With the year and a half that I spent there I was amazed at what a wonderful, beautiful, wealthy nation it is. There is a strong economy, and cities and townships popping up every where. Kind of reminds me of America.
Sure, they have allot of poor, but so does America, I don't care what numbers the government feeds us. I have eyes, I see allot of people living in very nice homes, that shortly after getting it they lose it, because they go to far in debt. I see allot of Americans out of work, but there stolen ss numbers say they can have as many as two hundred jobs all over the country.

I ask that question all the time. This is America and we speak English here. If someone is living here from another country then they had better learn the language. The government has taken away the incentive for non-English speaking people to learn English. Everything should be done in English and English only.

Also, America is made up of many different cultures. The "American Way" is YOUR way. People come from all different parts of the world, and speak different languages.

Whereas other countries like France is made up of the French, which equals the French Language. In Japan, THey're Japanese, in Russia, they're Russian. But in America, we have everyone.

We have much more diversity in our country than in others. Christianity is not the only religion in The United States. If you love America so much why would you argue with the constitution.
