I work at Winn Dixie, and me and five girls were eating lunch in the breakroom. A 76 year old man, name Gus that bags groceries came in and started to eat with us. While we were eating, he brought up a story about him using escorts services in the past to get ladies. All the girls were laughing and joking with him saying that he is a stud. Now if I said that, those same girls would of been pissed at me. Why do you think Old people can get away with so much.

Because they've been there and done it - good or bad your elders deserve respect. You may not like the person, personally but he/she deserves your respect if there's a big age difference. While what Gus brought up may be digusting and distasteful to you - edging a bit on sexual harrassment (if there are any ladies around) - he's an old guy reliving his glory days. Sorry to burst your bubble but belive me you'll be there a whole lot sooner than you'll ever expect. Give the old guy a break. When you grow up you'll understand.

Old people often DON'T get respect. They really have to deserve it or they don't get it. Easier if they are rich though. In this case, my guess is that he is too old to get any and is not threatening. It probably seems funny and quaint that he was a stud needing it and getting it in the past. Even if he had to pay for it sometimes.

Is more of a tradition than anything else. People in some cultures believe that the older you are the wiser you become, native americans per example. I don't agree!

people just naturally respect older people because older people have more experiance with things and knowledge then younger people who havent gone through all that. younger people look up to older people because from since we were kids, older people always ordered us around and taught us how to live, so we just naturally respect them more then younger people who we could boss around.
