I would like to find a deployed American soldier for my 8 year old son to write. I think it is important that he understand the life of a soldier and show his support and respect. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

TO KING MIDAS: First, how do you figure that the father is necessary in this instance. Second, that so called role model is a dead beat how is no longer here and cares about himself only. I am my son's role model. I taught him how to stand up to pee (that was a toughy). I am the one that taught him to hold the door for ladies. I am the one that taught him to be respectful of others. NOT that sorry excuse for a man. That person that you want to be his role model has shown no desire to even see him since he was 3 months old. The first time he ever took him anywhere by himself, it was to a bar where he left him in the car. If it wasn't for the bartender, I never would have known. That role model also beat me, threw me down a small set of stairs and threw a knife at me because I was pregnant. Role model my laughing a**. You need to stop being chauvanistic and come to terms with the fact that not all men (or women) are even nice human beings, much less a role model.

I am a Soldier, I am not currently deployed, but I understand you situation well. My mother taught me all those things also, because my father was almost exactly like your husband. I love my mother for it and still do not like my father. I have my own son now and will/do love him tremendously. It is good that you are looing for a male role model for your son. And I pray that you are not still with that other guy.

I was in during the initial invasion of Iraq and I first want to say that you are a true patriot and I think that if their was more of your type America would be a better country. And for your answer you could try what has been mentioned is good as well try your local veteran organizations such as: VFW (veterans of foreign wars), the AMVETS, and possible the local Veteran Affairs hospital. Good luck and if you have any problems let me know I have buddies in still.

If you live near a base get a number for it and they may give you a few ways to find out. But also check with recruter they may be able to help. But thank you for doing that with your son. As the wife of a military man I can say your right it is important but jsut not done enough. THANK YOU:)
