They want to scapegoat immigrants for systematic social, economic and political problems that are not caused by immigrants. I think that we should aggressively be out there confronting them and denouncing them and exposing who is funding them.
The lawyers’ groups are filing lawsuits and sending out legal monitors to watch the Minutemen.
There’s a legislative strategy team that aims to educate state officials about the danger the militias pose, and why vigilanteism shouldn’t be tolerated.
But what else can be done as abolitionists to end this racism?

sqwirlsgirl - you got me. You have to confront these MinuteKlan types, this issue is very important. No matter what fear Bush + friends puts on us doesn't mean the people of this country should put that on others. We need to help out the poorest, especially when it is US policies that created this situation and US employers who exploit these people. These workers are more similar to us than we are to the elite who control and run our country, we need to stand by them because to the elite, we are treated the same as these people are treating so-called "illegals" we are in the smae catagory. We are the People.
No human is illegal.
For the rest of you wake up. Maybe you should talk to a so-called "illegal" and realize these are human beings we are talking about not your funny little anger outlets. Get educated.

I have not heard anyone bash immigrants. However, I have heard allot of people saying they will not tolerate criminals, insulting the immigrants of America. I don't care what country legal immigrants come from, illegals have no right to insult the true immigrants of America by calling themselves immigrants.
I as an American am not allowed excuses when I break the law, and I must suffer the consequences. Someone that made a choice to break a law, and planned it out, then acted on it is a criminal, no excuses as to why are acceptable. It is not acceptible for a citizen, or an immigrant, it is not acceptible for a premeditated criminal. Legal immigrants come to America to feed their families, and they are strong people who believe in doing things the right way. Illegals are just criminals that believe they deserve something they WILL NOT EARN. Americans, and Legal immigrants deserve better, we have earned it.

Right wing propaganda is alive and well in this country. I considered myself a conservative, but what I have read on this board lately I now see why we are called bigots and racists. I am a Latin and I work very hard and pay taxes, like any other good American. I have NEVER been given a handout, nor has any of my family.
I am pretty fed up of all the hate mongering going on here. I seriously question whether I will stay a conservative. If it means belonging to a group of racists, I don't want any part of it.
As far as the minutemen, they were booted out of our community. I am in Texas in a border town. Many people were offended by them coming here. We don't have problems here, its a quite safe community, we don't need any radicals here trying to tell us that we need their protection. Give me a break!

No, Illegal immigrants are not scapegoats. They are criminals!!!! Is this the additional title for illegal immigrants now? First there was migrant worker, guest worker, undocumented worker, now I guess it's scapegoat worker. I wonder what will be next. Also, you are ignorant to think that people who are against illegal immigrants are bigots, racist, fascists or redneck. They are none of the hateful labels pro illegal immigrants put on them. Have a nice day.

I just wanted to say I GOT THE QUESTION. The question wasn't saying who is legal or illegal......it was simply asking why are we using "immigrants" in general ........ responsible for all our social and political horrors.
Why are we focusing on the fat cats.....instead of the big dogs......I got you.....I hope!
Oh and too end.......while I haven't come up with a better word than vigilante.....THEY cannot create a group that singles out a certain breed/race/color of human to target and call themselves HEROES.
I love your posts......I don't always GET them.....but I love them.

Since when is an anti-immigrant a bigot by definition? It's not a hate issue, you want to make it that. You are spreading the lies that there is no such thing as America, and no such thing as an American citizen. If we don't raise the Mexican border north and send land back to Mexico, suppress our heritage, our language, our identity, our flag, our money, services, and our laws for you, then we must be bigots.
Your not fooling anyone. We will not suspend our constitution to the will of another nation.

Why is it that people aren't able to distinguish not wanting people to be here illegally and racism? It's not a difficult concept. We have borders just like Mexico does. We allow people to immigrate here but only if they do so legally. We want people here who want to be here and participate in this society. That is not racism. How come there are no questions about Mexico sealing its borders? Why is it ok for Mexico to do something but if America does the same thing it is racist? Sounds hypocritical to me.

its very unfair to put anti immigration and bigotry in the same sentence or question.it is about laws, using fake documents to obtain social security numbers, jobs, ongoing public assistance, and so on is illegal the last time i checked,im all for immigration, but it shouldn't be that easy.social, economic and political problems are caused by pretty much everybody but enforcing strict immigration laws could help the situation.

Because we're talking about an ever escalating group of people BREAKING OUR LAWS.
Those who try to legally immigrate here find it increasing difficult because the illegal are draining the system.

It's not the immigrants that we hate, it's the ILLEGAL part of it. If they love this country then come here legally and learn the language and be true to the USA!

American Citizens are fine with immigrants. They are NOT okay with ILLEGALS. As long as people come legally and work that's fine. Many of America's ancestors were immigrants. I think your a little confused as to what We The People are against. To make it clear to you, again it's: ILLEGALS!!!!
