I live in Los Angeles and all the wedding chapels are so expensive! I took a look at the Ivy House in Ingelwood and was blown away by the prices. It seems everything was ala a carte. I felt that the woman who was helping us wanted us out as soon as possible. We got there early and we were not helped until 30 minutes later. We are planning our wedding on December 31 of this year. My fiancee's afraid that if we plan a garden wedding that it might rain. Does anyone have any idea of where we can get married that wouldnt cost an arm and a leg??

HAVING BEEN IN THE WEDDING INDUSTRY FOR OVER 11 YEARS , PLEASE DO NOT HAVE ANYONE TELL YOU IT IS OK TO ASK PEOPLE TO PAY FOR THEIR MEALS OR HAVE A CASH BAR. THAT IS THE TACKIEST THING YOU COULD POSSIBLY DO.
FIRST DECIDE WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU. A CHAPEL, THE RECEPTION, THE FOOD, FLOWERS, YOUR DRESS? PUT THEM IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE , FIGURE OUT A BUDGET ( YES, YOU NEED A BUDGET FOR A GUIDELINE) THEN IF YOU WANT TO FIGURE IT OUT BY INDUSTRY STANARDS
50% FOR CHAPEL AND RECEPTION
10% DRESS
10% FLOWERS
10% PHOTOS
10% ENTERTAINMENT
10% INVITES, ETC,ETC,ETC
YOU ADJUST AS YOU SEE FIT. YOU MAY NOT WANT ENTERTAINMENT. ANY ?, FEEL FREE TO ASK ME.

First -cheap is relative. Living in L.A. $15-20,000 grand is probably considered cheap. I don't live in L.A and had a wonderful wedding for $5,000. We had friends that spent &18,000 and no-one was impressed. I agree with the last lady, invite less guests-that's were alot of money goes. Do you know anyone with a nice house, if your planning a smaller wedding that could be a great place, or maybe a smaller golf/country club. Good Luck.

Try your church. Most have a hall attached and they don't cost as much. If you are not a member of a church or temple that you can work with contact different ones in the area that you live and see if they will work with you. Since Dec. 31st is an impossible to schedule around I suggest that you change the date. I understand it is you first choice but everything will be higher and it will be more expensive even for you guest. Good luck and blessings on your marriage!!

few weddings Ive been too has just been in a big white markee(big pretty white tent ),, decorated with white drapes and flowers , it can be done pretty cheap, and the tables and chairs usually come with that,, you could hire a caterer, or do the food yourself, it's not uncommon here in Australia for guests to pay $20-$50 per person , or whatever to cover the cost of their meal, then pay for their own drinks. so that would solve the garden wedding problem if it rains, or you could just get everyone to pay so much per head at a restaurant , my friend did that , everyone paid $30 for their own 3 course meal and my friend had some champaigne on each table , but when that ran out we bought our own drinks, no one cared about having to pay, it's our friends wedding so it's her night ,,not a free feed free drinks night for us..lol

What about renting out a restaurant? My brother and his wife when they got married rented out a restaurant for their wedding it was still very pretty and they served food etc and had dancing. OR try going to Las Vegas and inviting all your friends and family and getting married there then have a reception at a family members home later on.

Drive toward San Bernadino or into Orange County. Despite what people think the "The OC", it's cheaper and there are alot of peaceful and serene settings available.

Sure!. Weddings are cheap - it's the receptions that can be killer. Best tip is to invite less people so that you can spend more on better things.

MY WIFE AND I MARRIED UNDER A GAZEBO IN THE LOCAL PARK. WE HAD IMITATION FLOWERS TIED TO THE GAZEBO POLES. THE RECEPTION WAS AT HER BROTHERS HOUSE UNDER THE PATIO. FAMILY AND FRIENDS SUPPLIED THE FOOD. WE BROUGHT A SMALL AMOUNT OF BEER AND COOL DRINK, IF THEY WANTED SPIRITS THEY BROUGHT THEIR OWN. IT RAINED DURING THE RECEPTION BUT EVERYTHING WAS UNDER COVER. THE WHOLE THING WAS CHEAP BUT NOT NASTY.
