I like the idea of a guy doing that, but realistically I've gotten used to doing those things by myself.

being a gentleman is a pre-requisite, not an accomplishment. But sad to say that the world that we live in has reduced the standards so much so that many women dont even know how they should expect to be treated when in the company of a man.

I actually stopped seeing a man because I asked him to open the car door for me and he refused and told me that I could open it myself that there was nothing wrong with me.... I could not wait to get back to my own car. IF I have to do everything myself, I can do it by myself....

Being a Gentleman is a very good thing, and if a woman does not appreciate that in your character then she will not appreciate what you have to bring into her life. It takes quality to identify quality.

I don't mind it when my boyfriend opens the door whenever we go somewhere, but I'm too much of an independent person so I would rather help myself with my seat and coat. It weirds me out.

All of us like it (or we are lying!). And then, we like to reciprocate by doing the same. If it courtesy, instead of the remnants of an ancient belief that a woman was too weak or frail to help or protect herself, then it is great. Maybe, during the "days of yore" the chairs and doors were really, really heavy, and women had to wear clothing that was movement restricting, so it was valid. Now, though, it is a way of showing respect and caring. It shows you have manners.

It's nice at times, but my husband understands that I'm not helpless either. I can put on my own coat. I like to have the door held for me though, especially when i'm carting the three children. Chivalry isn't entirely gone, thank God!

I love it. Of course we both know that I'm perfectly capable of opening my own doors and putting on my own coat ... after all, I do it when my guy isn't around. But we both like the symbolism that he is "taking care of me" when we are together.

I would love to have a man do those things and I have not in my 26 years met a man that did those things. Most men have lost sight of romance. Most men have come to believe that romance is no longer needed to get to a woman's heart and us women help to keep their belief going. I would love to one day answer that question with "Yes I love when my man does that for me and it is something that he does on a regular basis!" But until then......

That's a real gentleman the ones that existed when my grandmother was dating (She turns 90 on the first) but all jokes aside that's nice If you have that attitude no wonder your girlfriend is jealous she know what she has... you go boy!!!

That is very old fashioned. But it's nice to see that there are gentlemen in this world. Personally, i do NOT like when a man does those things. I'm not that helpless, yet!

That kind of depends on the guy. Normally I don't really like it, and don't make a big deal out of it, but if I really like the guy then he can do no wrong and that gesture seems sweet.
