I have a 6 month old Pit Bull and we think she has a cyst on her front leg near her elbow. It's squishy, not hard. It hasn't interfered with her personality. When I touch or squeeze on it, she acts like it's no bother. Awaiting her vet visit, just curios of how a dog gets this. I haven't found anything online that tells me about it. Maybe someone could help me??

A cyst in a dog, just like in a person, may be caused by infection, genetic predisposition/hereditary, or for no reason at all. Most of the time, they're nothing to worry about, just a fluid-filled sac that formed between the flesh and the skin and will eventually dissolve and go away on their own. Some dogs get them pretty regularly, like some people--- my sister and I both get cysts on our wrists (say that three times fast) regularly. I guess we were just born with a predisposition to develop them!

And, yes, usually they are not painful so pressing on them won't bother your pup; your vet will probably determine first if the cyst is attached to her flesh or not, before deciding if it should be surgically removed, or if it's better to just allow it to go away on its own.

Welp, I've got one on my right hand, and my doctor says its from being so active and using my right hand all the time, (writing, dribbling, throwing a frisbee), not quite sure how it gets there, but maybe you jsut havea really active puppy!!
