I'm not trying to mock the religion here, I'm just wondering, why do christians praise (if that is the word) the instrument by which their prophet was killed?

I disagree with tagi. The Catholics bow down to a cement Christ on a cross. if that isn't idolatry, I don't know what is. If your friend was killed by a gun, would you wears one around your neck. It is a good thing he wasn't trampled by an elephant. We don't need physical symbols are signs to have us remember the sacrifice of Jesus. if we do, then the level of our worship is on the surface and not the heart. I have seen a lot of drug dealers and gang members wearing crosses. What does that symbol remind them of? The bible strictly forbids us to make any object in the likeness of Him or anything symbols at all. the early Christians forbid their usage and the only reason they are used now is because of Constantine trying to unite he pagans and the Christians. the cross was used by the pagans long before Christ.

The original symbol of Jesus was a fish. This is still 'a' symbol of Christianity, however not the most excepted one. When Christianity was still underground and persecuted by Rome, Christians would draw the form of the fish in the ground to identify their affiliation to that religion without giving themselves away to authorities. The Cross is a contrivance. In other words, it was made up. Jesus probably wasn't even hung on a Cross. The only recorded method of crucifixion was on a pole with the arms wrapped around to the back and nailed in there. The Cross was created by mixing the equilateral cross "+" the symbol of Mithra, with the Ankh http://www.pointandpeople.com/gestionnaire/comtem/images/catalogue/ankh-grande-or.jpg the symbol of Osiris, you get the Christian cross.

We do not worship or praise the Cross, It is the man who died on the Cross, and His Father we worship. The Cross is only a symbol of Faith that represents what Christ died for, Our sins. We as Christians are to leave our sins at the foot of the cross so that we may be forgiven and be with Our Father and His Son in Heaven.

How would you feel if one of your dearest friends was executed on the basis of a false charge? Would you make a replica Of the instrument of execution? Would you cherish it? or would you shun it?
In ancient Israel, unfaithful Jews wept over the death of the false God Tammuz, GOD spoke of what they were doing as a detestable thing.(Ezek. 8:13'14)According to history, Tammuz was a Babylonian God, and the Cross WAS USED AS HIS SYMBOL. From its beginning in the days of Nimrod,Babylon was against God and an enemy of true worship(Gen:8-10 Jer.50:29) So by cherishing the cross, a person is honoring a symbol of worship that opposes the true GOD.
As stated in Ezekiel 8:17 apostate Jews also Thrust out this shoot to Gods nose, God viewed it as detestable and offensive. WHY? This shoot some commentators explain, was a representation of the male sex organ, used in Phallic Worship. How, then, must God view the use of the cross, which, as we have seen was used as a symbol of Phallic worship?
I guess some folks can read the Bible but not discern the meaning?

Who "praises" the cross?

I wear a crucifix which is a cross with Christ on it, many people just wear a cross - how is it praising? It's a simple reminder of how much God loved us.

Can you give an example of how it's "praised?" When I think of "praise," I think of things like, "Hey, wow, that cross did a *great* job!" Er, Christians I know don't do that.

We also don't worship it. We worship Christ. One more time, for people who still don't get it - it's a *reminder* of how Christ suffered for us and how much God loves us. That's all.

The cross is a symbol ,of fulfilled prophesy, and the acceptance of Christ-to endure humiliation and pain,as a human;obeying GODS will, sanctifying GODS words, that WE-may be saved in his blood. We Christians don`t worship the cross,-but use it as a constant reminder,of the WILLING sacrifice -paid in blood, for the forgiveness of our sins.

Christians do not praise the cross nor should they worship it. All worship belongs to God, His Son, and is done thru the Holy Spirit that lives within each and every believer.

We don’t praise the cross. But we do use it as a reminder that Jesus, the Son of God, our savior, was able to over come death that just happened to be crucifixion.

Their second commandment is don't bow down to statues or idols... which the cross is. This commandment only matter to the christians if they can condemn someone else. That's how christianity works if they can condemn you they see it as sin. But when they do it they say it's ok....
