We are about to adopt a aussie and I was curious how they behave......Are they easy to train housebreak,Do they run away alot ,Are they ok alone(being the only dog) etc.We do have a child but he is 10 so not young ..Also is there a differance between a male and a female because I have my choice of either.

OH Aussie's are great dogs, I have two..at my mom's. We sent them both to obidience school and are very happy with what they have learned. Both are males which means they can handle more than one owner. My parents live on a lake and the dogs enjoy the water, playing with balls and sticks and such. Female Aussie's tend to listen more to one owner (the person who cares for them most..ie. feeds, waters, plays) The dogs are very curious and want to 'see for them self.' They are great with kids. I have 2 kids under 5 and the dogs watch out for them when we are all outside. One loves the water more than the other and when the kids are swimming so is he. Mine are not inside dogs as they will shed frequently. They are easy to train. I hope that you enjoy which ever you decide on as it will be a regular family member in your home.

Personally, Aussies can be very hyper - i adopted a 6 week one last thanksgiving. i adopted a girl, and they will stay closer to home and be gentler than boys, for your child. they're not too hard to housebreak, just be very consistent. they don't like to be alone a lot, but if you have a yard they can run around after being in their enclosure (kennel, crate, whatever), they should be fine as long as there's food and water when locked up! they're smart so tricks like sit and such are easy. my dog learned sit, down and stay by 10 weeks - sit a lot sooner. she's 8 months and knows sit, stay, paw, other paw, high five, lay down and such on voice command. have fun!

Aussies are great dogs, they have a great deal of stamina and is loving , bold, alert, confindent, independent, smart, and responsive. They have a high energy level so you must be active they are very playful and affectionate do well with other dogs pets and strangers they are very easy to train They are protective and watchdoggy they dont need alot of grooming either so all a round they are a really terific dog to have. ~~K

Aussies are great dogs!!! i have one and he trails with me every time i go but Aussies aren't for a busy family they have tons of energy and need a fenced yard. they love to run.play and be with you i hope you and Ur Aussie are a great match for each orther
