The stove I am using plain and simply sucks. I made a wonderful loaf of banana bread last night, and even though I went to the maximum of 50-60 minutes bake time, the top center was still doughy. I'm thinking of making brownies for the kids tonight and don't want the same thing to happen. Should I change the position of the pan in the oven, or up the temperature? Anyone have some ideas?

Um.. yeah, well in Michigan we call the entire appliance a stove.
I have been putting it in the center, using a glass pan. Let it go as long as I could. The edges were browning and starting to burn, so I took it out, top center was still doughy :(

Have you tried changing the glass pan and use a non stick baking pan instead? Have you tried moving up the rack so the top part is higher and near the heat at the top of the oven? I hope that throws some idea, I use to bake in highschool, and we weren't the richest to afford nice ovens. So I had to improvised.

If you place your item in the center of the oven it will help it to cook more evenly.... I wouldn't increase the temp. because it could cause the outside edges to burn, while the inside is still gooey. I would consider letting it cook just a little longer -- and just keep a close eye on it (checking on it every 3-5 mins) Thus achieving the desired effect.
Possible Idea - check into toaster ovens with bake options. I have a large capacity toaster oven that bakes, broils, and toasts. I have found I love using it for smaller items such as desserts and the like so not to heat my kitchen up so much, especially during the summer months.
Modification- if letting it go for a longer time caused the edges to burn, then your oven may be too hot - think about decreasing the temp.

Lower the temperature of the oven (25-50 degrees) and cook longer. this will give the center more time to cook before the edges start Browning.

I had a problem with uneven baking and had a tech come to the house. He told me the drip sheets that I had in the bottom of the oven cause uneven baking. I removed them and have not had a problem since. I never would have thought to blame them since they were silicone, but removing them worked. Baking in the middle of the oven helps too.

Maybe you should call someone to check out your stove. In the mean time try to lower the temperature while your baking and cook it a little longer.

Have you tried putting aluminum foil over the edges of the pan so they won't brown and cook it some more?
If you have already, sorry. Just an idea.

yah, the temp should be increased: get an oven thermometer because your oven might not be calibrated and is a bit too cool.
