Since it is already a crime to be within this country illegally - enforce the laws.
"Between 1999 and 2003, work-site enforcement operations were scaled back 95 percent by the Immigration and Naturalization Service, which subsequently was merged into the Homeland Security Department. The number of employers prosecuted for unlawfully employing immigrants dropped from 182 in 1999 to four in 2003, and fines collected declined from $3.6 million to $212,000, according to federal statistics."
"In 1999, the United States initiated fines against 417 companies. In 2004, it issued fine notices to three." (1)
In 1986, President Reagan signed the Simpson-Mazzoli law of 1986. Like the current proposals, Simpson-Mazzoli contained both amnesty and tough enforcement measures.
It didn't take long for the amnesty provisions to be implemented, but 20 years later, we're still waiting for the enforcement measures to kick in. We do not need a repeat of such again.
Enforcement at all levels of all business should be done and isn't. I know, because where I work which is the largest grocery store chain within the world asked ME to cover for a girl that had been working there so that she could go get her green card. I refused - called INS - nothing done and the girl still works there (getting less money personally while the corporation and CEO's are making more money). "Trickle down economics" isn't working except to make the rich richer.
Americans are making a simple request. Show us some enforcement first before talk of any sort of changes within laws, claims that they can't be enforced when they is no attempt to enforce them.
Some will claim that such makes one somehow a "bigot" - but it isn't bigotry to want the laws to be enforced. It is people interested in the laws being followed and wanting those in political office to uphold those laws as they swore that they would do.

Can't anyone ask about the 5 soldiers killed yesterday in Iraq instead of everyone harping on this subject.
Congress had a chance to do something about illegals but chose not to because it is an election year. Their big answer was to build a billion dollar fence! That isn't going to solve the problem!
You did note they did not go after the employers who illegally hire them. Walmart was caught with 150 undocumented workers!
Go after the employers. Fine the hell out of them and when the demand stops, so would those who come over here to work!
But you see government doesn't want to do that! The employers would have to start paying AT LEAST minimum wage! And corporations, who give a lot to congressman, won't be very happy with that!!

I agree that there is a problem…but it’s not caused by immigration (legal or not)…immigrants and citizens alike are victims of a social structure that through grave injustices (like insufficient wages, inadequate healthcare, human rights abuses) forces these people into criminal behavior. We can seal up our borders, but we will still be a country in trouble…illegal immigration—it’s just a distraction from the real issues…and we are never going to be able to address the real issues until we can get over this and until we can stop inciting hate.
Describing his program for reforming immigration laws, President Bush said, “What I have just described is not amnesty; it is a way for those who have broken the law to pay their debt to society, and demonstrate the character that makes a good citizen.”…
But what scares me is who’s defining “the character” that makes a good citizen.

Automatic weapons.
I think if we treated illegal immigration like an invasion, eventually the problem would solve itself.
I also think we need to go after businesses that hire illegal immigrants. We dry up the jobs, then maybe they'll try coming over here LEGALLY. And that I don't have a problem with.

What many people dont realize is that the "deport them all" mantra that they keep chanting is just NOT going to happend,it is not about them to decide so they might as well stop braging about it,because it bores me!
I do support the Senate bill!!!I think it has the right amount of everything to make it work! And YES,I do believe that some people who have been here for a very long time, have worked, show prove of paid taxes, dont have criminal record and paid the almost 3500$ fines do deserve a chanse to earn their legal papers!
Other thing that people dont realise, especialy the ones in the House of representatives is that ,if you want the illigals to come out of the shadows, then you need to pass a bill that is going to be atractive enough to make them do that!!!!Because if you dont, wich illigal is going to be stuped enough to leave behind everything he has worked for?!
If a good enough bill is not passed,USA is going to have the same problem in few years!!!!
When I listen to the news and other people's opinions I already start to laugh sarcastically when I hear "Lock them up....",or "Lock the border...",Lock this....Lock that....Why dont we just lock ourselfs in our houses, close our eyes and be done with it.The ostrich does something like that right?!He berries his head in the sand instead of confronting the problem in a wise, not stuped way!!!!!
Hey here is another "problem solver".Why dont we deport all the black criminals back to Africa to fend for them selfs in the jungle?!
Didnt you here the news about the terrorist plot against the Sears Tower in Chicago?Didnt you see who they arrested for that? They were ALL AMERICAN CITIZENS and guess what....THEY WERE ALL BLACK!Not that there is any surprise there!
I mean do you think it will be better to deport the blacks with criminal offenses, wich is most of their population anyway, and make room for people who came here illigaly but work as dogs, pay their taxes and never comited a crime?!
What a great "problem solver"....,or is it realy?!
I just hope that finaly the politicians will put their dumb mashinations aside and finaly come up with right decision!!!

Border security first just like the wall in Israel, its working for them.. 2,000 miles of the whole border, no leaks.. The law about granting citizenship to children of illegals needs to change. All the businesses that hire illegals needs to be charged with a felony. The ones that make the fake documents need to be fined with a felony. The ones that are renting to them need to be fined. No benefits to anyone illegal. The places where they can send money back to their home place should be fined.

We should get rid of the spineless weaklings in office who are for them like Bush, who should be the President of Mexico since he is more concerned about them than he is us. We should go after the traitors who hire these criminals. We should heavily fine the employers when they are caught. I know of at least 7 places just around here where we can start. Finally, I think that we should jail the illegals when we find them here. If they want to infest our country so bad, they can sit in a jail cell.

No Amnesty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enforce laws already enacted!!!!!
1. Build the wall (like the one in Israel)
2. Establish severe penalties for employers.
3. Term limits for US Congress (Senate and House) to omit pandering to special interest groups
4. No free ride (healthcare, welfare, schools, food stamps) for illegals and NO MORE "anchor babies" (automatic citizenship for any illegal who happens to jump the border and give birth).
5. Make it easy to report illegals and those who employ them.
6. Make English the official language of the US
7. Publicize $$ spent on illegals for governemnt programs and prisons, so people are aware.

A giant multilayered wall on both borders, massive deportation program over 10 years, and huge penalties for hiring illegal workers.
