The two cats eat adult food, both soft and crunchy, but we have noticed the kitten has really bad gas, could it be the food? We fed the older one the same food when she was a kitten, and she's never had a gas problem. The little guy has the worst farts!

If you have a 'special diet' cat in the household, whether it be a kitten food diet or a hypoallergenic diet, it is best to feed all the cats the special diet food. As someone already wrote, the adults can eat kitten food which is higher in nutritional value, but the kitten won't get proper nutrients with adult food. You may notice that the adult cats bulk up while eating the kitten food, but once the kitten moves to adult food everything should be fine.

Different cats - like people - get gas from different foods, so follow the suggestions of others & experiment with various foods for a few days each. Be sure to buy small amount of each food as you try them so you don't get stuck with big bags of leftover food (most animal shelters won't accept open food as donations).

I would recommend going to your pet store & checking the PROTEIN & FAT content of various kitten foods. You want something with real meat, not [chicken or beef] *meal* and not too much fat.

Most vets say that wet food is easier to digest so you may want to try the wet varieies first. Plus they come in little cans so you don't have to worry about big bags of food.

Good luck.
(don't feel too bad, cat gas can't smell nearly as bad as dog gas!!)

If the kitten is young, it could be the food -- he probably should have kitten food, which is richer in certain nutrients he needs for digestion. We have both adult cats and a couple kittens right now. The adult cats get fed adult food twice a day. The kittens get kitten food several times a day. They eat in different rooms, and this is not at all traumatic for the cats. In fact, the kittens already know where to go. My adult cats not only know which room to go to, but exactly where their bowls are. Coolio, my big white neutered tomcat, stands right next to his bowl and waits for his food.

Different cats get gas with different foods. It could possibly be the food, and I would suggest getting the little guy some kitten food. It has the nutrients he needs to grow healthy and strong. When my parents had kittens and adult cats in the house, they mixed kitten food with adult cat food so they could pick out what they wanted.

The little cat probably isn't ready for grown-up food yet. Feed him kitten chow- and it doesn't really have to be soft, unless he's just weaned.

Good luck!

Try giving both cats soft cat food instead.
