Ask a doctor about the correct amount, but I would assume 1000-1500 calories from healthy food and not junk. You would be surprised as to what kinds of food you can eat for that.

Women per day
2000 calories
70g of fat
20g saturates
24g fibre
6g salt
Men per day
2500 calories
95g fat
30g saturates
24g fibre
6g salt
Thats just the recommended GDA's
You have to stay active to keep the heart healthy though.
And health should be a greater concern than weight loss.
Hope I helped!

Go to this website and use the daily caloric intake calculator. You can also experiment with some of the other ones if you'd like, like the BMI one or something.

For most people it is 2000. To try to loose weight you can lower it to 1500 or 1000. But no less it is not healthy and may cause health problems.

With Jenny Craig I started out with a 1500 calorie diet and as I got to 20% of my weight loss it turned to 1,200 calories. You need food to burn fat. Don't deny yourself too much. Also you do need a certain percentage of fats in your diet. You can find them with oily fish or perhaps put a bit of canola oil or flaxseed oil into your fat free dressing. You do need some fat also to burn fat. Go to www.jennycraig.com and read their tips. Good luck.
