their LIVES so that we can remain a free nation? Their unselfish sacrifices, the mothers, fathers, and other relatives of these true-to-life HEROES deserve to know that the actions taken and proudly so,were NOT unnoticed and that we are forever thankful for the jobs they all took upon themselves to secure our safety and rights to the freedoms we now enjoy. Without our military,we could easily by now be under the rule of one of many dictator or terrorist controlled countries.BECAUSE of our military,we will spend another Fourth of July celebrating our nation`s freedom. We were formed a free nation with battle, and we continue to battle to remain a free nation, and to help other nations gain their freedom.I think this is a good time to show our service people how GRATEFUL we are, and how MUCH we RESPECT them! U.S.A. ROCKS!!!!!!! THANK YOU,MILITARY....FROM OUR HEARTS...TO YOURS!!!! : )

Honestly - and I am speaking from experience - the best way to thank a veteran is to look them squarely in the eye, shake their hand and say, "Thank you."

We don't ask for or expect anything more, and that simple recognition has been known to bring tears to servicemembers eyes.

Or, in my case, you can thank me with a Best Answer selection! LOL! JUST KIDDING!!! :-P

As many of already said... "Thank you" sums it all up. It is amazing what effectt a simple phrase has. A veteran of OIF, I was fortunate to come home to thankful people. When I first got out of high school I moved into an apt on my own. -Long story short... my neighbor was a Vietnam Vet in a wheelchair. After talking for 20 minutes, I went to leave and said "Thank you" for serving our country" He started to cry. Not knowing what was happening I started apologizing -afraid I had said something wrong or stiired some bad memories, He told me that NO-ONE !! had ever told him that before. That broke my heart. I couldn't believe this man had served his country and been so injured while there and has lived his life since then, never hearing those words.

my husband is active duty and he's deployed right now. i think something nice that you could do is send care packages and supplies and stuff. you can go online to several websites to do this...sorry i don't know any off hand but you can do that! they always need things and many of them will tell you what they want too! it's a great way to say thanks if you don't get to meet a military person face to face. but like the others said, saying thankyou and shaking their hand is really wonderful. this happened to my husband when we were at the airport and it was so touching. one guy did it and then a few more did right after they saw the first guy. it made me feel so proud of him. thank you so much for being a supporter! :)

I agree with Sgt. K, the very best way to thank veterans is to shake their hand upon meeting them and say, "Thank you for your service to our country". It means the most.

Pertaining to the soldiers of the Vietnam era: I meet quite a few, and once I asked one what the best way to thank them was and he replied, "Nobody was glad when I came home from 'Nam, they called me a baby-killer, and Ma'am I ain't never killed no babies. The best thing you could do is shake my hand and say, " "Welcome home Soldier" ".

Visit your local Veterans of Foreign Wars post, (you'll have to be signed in by a member; it is a private club, but there'll be people there who will welcome you). Speak to the commander, if possible and ask him/her if there is any special need present. I'm sure there will be. Find a VFW post here: http://www.vfwkc.org/post_location/state.asp

Being a Soldier, I like badmts' answer, but that is a selfish answer.

The best way to thank us, is to become one of us. Volunteer to serve beside us. There is no better thanks or level of recognition than emulation.

If you can not enlist, volunteer to do something else in your community and remind others that if Soldiers are willing to lay down their lives for any American, without knowing all of them, unconditional love, than the least everyone else can do is help each other, and do it in the name of those that serve.

The best way to thank them is by watching how you vote, only voting for those candidates that promise to or have supported veterans issues in the past.

Okay, spiffy that you're thanking the military men and women...But geez, get a life and go thank them with some sort of real thanks instead of asking a lame question and answering it yourself. Go buy them a fruit basket or something.
