I think it's are consciences, people around us, how we were taught growing up, are surrandings etc, that stop us from turning bad. I mean I don't have a religion and I haven't gone of the rails.

Turning Bad? I hate to be the one to break the news to you, but we are born bad and no amount of turning, choosing, hoping, religion, good, doing or being will ever change that. We were all born into Adam and partake of the penalty of his transgression by heredity. The only way out of the life of Adam is death, either your physical death or your identification with the death of the last Adam and second man, Christ. It has nothing to do with what sins you have committed personally; you are either bad and dead because you are in Adam or righteous and alive because you are in Christ. There is no middle ground or third option. That most people can compare themselves to their neighbor or a Hitler and say: “I’m not as bad as they are” or “I’m a good person because I ___,” is fools gold and not profit you one whit when the goats are separated from the sheep. Any, I stress ANY, good or good works that man does is as filthy rags before YHVH.

There's more to it than just religion. For those who serve the living God (Christians) they can look to rewards for obedience and judgment for lack of it. Knowing that there is more than just the here and now keeps people focused on the future

A person who hold him/her self responsible for their own actions have a healthy conscience. People who rely on religion don't get to decide their actions for themselves. Those whithout religion are great people, healthy independant and far more honest.

A belief in God will keep you in the straight and narrow path. The Holy Spirit is our Guide and Jesus is our mediator if we go off the path!

The Bible says, "That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thy heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shall be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Romans 10:9,10) To receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life, sincerely pray this prayer from your heart
“Dear Jesus, I believe that you died for me and that you rose again on the third day. I confess to you that I am a sinner and that I need your love and forgiveness. Come into my life, forgive my sins, and give me eternal life. I confess you now as my Lord. Thank you for my salvation. In Jesus Name Amen!”
