There are plenty of jobs out there government related. Federal, State and County each have their own civil service offices. You will need to look up these offices in the area you are looking to work in.
Good Luck and thanks for serving......
Below is a link to Hillsborough County's Civil Service board so you can see what they have openings for and pay ranges, and qualification's...

Depends on what your NEC is. I separated from the navy in 2001 as a sub ET and I was hired by Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. All I pretty much had to do was swap my uniform for jeans and I went to making $19/hr. I worked there for a year until I started college full-time. My recommendation would be to look at govt. contractors around your last duty station (assuming it isn't in Iceland or something like that). also, if you have any type of clearance you should have some kind of preference. Check out that site www.usajobs.com too. Good luck!

usajobs is correct, but remember to pay attention to where each application is to be submitted... some agencies even have different notification programs and different applications... most take usajobs resume... sign up for your desired area and they will send you emails daily.. weekly however you desire
dont forget your veteran's preference on your application.... several large cities are hiring for IRS call centers for seasonal work... usually there are clerical jobs all over the place because people take those to get into the govt job system --then move on
I found mine through an ad in the paper... they were hiring an insane amount of people (like 80-90) all at once.

I don't have a govt. job, but I'm acquainted with a number of people who do--my mail carriers. Why would you want to hide away in a warren of clerical workers when you could be outside enjoying things around you? Mailmen make a good living today, have topnotch benefits, plenty of vacation, and great job security. Plus you get to drive around in one of those little red, white, and blue trucks. All you need to qualify is pass the civil service exam. With your Navy background, you would have no trouble getting an available mail carrier job. Good luck with your job hunt wherever you head.

I got out of the Navy in 1998, and used the GI Bill to go back to college. Do you have that?
I don't know how long you have been in the service, but every high school kid graduating these days has those same skills, so you will be wanting to specialize a little bit to get a leg up. Good luck!!

Simply being a veteran will not get you a GOOD government job. You need a useful college degree (bachelor's degree) and some specialized experience related to what you studied in college. You also need some good references. How do I know? Because I am a veteran who went to college and now has a GOOD government job!
