Immigrants coming to United States from Asia; Middle East & Africa who are good speakers & writers of English with the British accent because they mostly have the British system of education till today. This becomes a problem for both the locals & immigrants whenever they enter into a conversation at work or outside. I am not taking into consideration those fellows who are below standard in writings also. This is a problm which they must rectify for their own good. A gap continues to widen dividing the comunity in groups solely because of difficulty in communication & not due to race, religion, color or social status.

Tell them the best advice is to stay in their own country...we have enough foreigners as it is.

Time usually cures that. My husband's parents had the same problem, but it went away after they lived here for a while. The big thing is idioms (Things that make no sense outside the home culture eg. "going postal", "egg on your face") There is no real way to learn those outside of living in the area for a while. Perhaps we just need to be more patient with them and explain things rather than talk above them.
