As long as your dog has had a rabies vaccine, you should not have anything to worry about. If your dog has not been vaccinated, then you may want to take him to be tested, because opossums and raccoons can carry rabies. If your dog is not showing any signs of illness, I would not worry, but if it would put your mind at ease, give your vet a call and see what they have to say about it.

By the way, I believe that opossums are the only marsupials that are in the USA. The babies may have already been born and were just inside the mother's pouch, and when she was killed it forced them out of the pouch. They stay inside the pouch until their eyes open and they have all of their hair. After that I think that they hold on to the mother's back when she travels because it's the only way that they can keep up with her.

I'm not really sure what baby possums coming out of the mother's belly would have to do with your dog's health. Did your dog eat them? So unless your dog got bit or scratched by the possum, he/she should be okay.

Wild animals (possum's) can carry rabies and other diseases, I would definitely have my dog seen by a vet. (but) you should be careful because vet services do like to swindle you into taking test and such that are not needed.

Go to the vet and pay lots of $$$ or just wait until you dog is actually sick. I hope your dog has all of its shots? If not , Go to the vet.

well, you may want to get your dog checked out in case the possum was carrying some disease or something, or he ate any of the placenta or anything...

I would get him checked out if he has signs of vomiting and lethargy. The opossum babies didn't explode out of her belly they fell out of her pouch. Opossums are Marsupials (like a kangaroo).
