they are not.
this is just a fallacy of people who think they are nice but not appreciated enough...

Those who think they are not appreciated enough and try to find reasons for it in OTHER people are generally under the influence of some complex (inferiority complex mostly)

I suugest you to explore objectively the reasons for your frustration.

You never know under what circumstances they are being mean do you. We can never be sure.
I'd rather give people the benefit of doubt than double-guess to their motives for being mean.
Also, keep up being nice, and be nice to them too - you'll either make a friend, or get to know what situation caused them to do that, or you'll teach them a lesson.
So don't be mean in response, just give back as a nice person and you'll bring in more happiness and positive energy into the world.

Either the nice person isn't as nice as you think, or, more commonly, it is has to do with the person who is being mean.

Sometimes people are mean because of their personality traits. Other times, people are mean because of situational variables (had a bad day, are in a bad mood). If someone is consistently mean, across situations/days, then it is more likely a personality variable.

Because mean people are mean as they have no inner strength or self confidence so they behave mean as their defense mechanism. When they meet somebody who is genuinely nice the mean person feels intimidated and threatened as subconsciously the nice person is a stronger person than them so they behave mean to defend themselves.
Did you get that?

Because we nice people, seem to be more knowledgeable, to a certain percentage, than they are, some what smarter than they are, some what more moral than they are and some what older, than they are. But some times if yu go to a movie theater, and buy a ticket, they'll be nicer to people who are older, regardless of much older.

I ask myself the same question all the time. Misery loves company, and unhappy people strive to bring joyful, loving people down to their level. Karma will always come back around and kick those jerks in the ***. Don't trip...
