ok here it is ... there is a roll of material that has a label on it that says 5000 linearft. it is 54" wide.... how many square feet is it and what is the formula to figure it?

length x width (in inches)

divide by 12 ( feet)

This is not a straight forward question. Square footage represents the area of something. Linear footage is a measure along a line. If the linear footage of a square were 16feet (4 feet on each side the area would be 4x4=16 square ft.
If a rectangle the area would be length time width (one long length times one short length)

Fold your measuring device into a square then see what it read. This your Square Footage.
