Yes, it's normal. It's to keep the landing smoother. And no, it's not dangerous. So relax. :)

Yes I have and it can be very dangerous. I remember one time it happened we could see out of the windows how foggy it was but the pilot told us we were cleared for landing and started going down. All of a sudden we could feel the plane pull sharply back up. We did wonder what was happening.
The pilot informed us that as he went down he saw another plane right below him and had he not pulled up he would have hit it! This despite being cleared for landing.
So mistakes do happen. But there is nothing you can do about it if you are a passenger on the plane. And statistical you're safer in a plane then a car.

If you're talking about when a plane has already started its landing sequence but then aborts partway through and climbs in altitude again, yes it is very scary but it's always for a good reason. If your captain said he did not have good visibility, pulling up is absolutely safer than trying to land--- he can't see where he's going, after all! The good news is it does not happen often, so you're not likely to run into it again. But if you do, just try to relax, and remember, the captain really wants to put the plane on the ground safely, and he wants to do that quickly, so if he is volunteering to fly a few minutes longer, then that's the safer way to go; they won't pull up without a good reason.

I've been on one a few times, it is certainly a thrilling expeirence! We actually had to go up because there was a miccommunication and we almost landed on another plane.

I've also been on a plane when the pilot had to pull off of the runway.

Fun fun!!

Do you mean a go-around (when the landing is actually aborted and a second approach has to be made). Yes, it is scary - and not really that common.

It can happen when another aircraft hasn't cleared the runway, or in bad weather eg strong crosswind - or when an inexperienced pilot cocks it up!

The back wheels should land first, so in some situations the plane would need to pull up to land properly.

I've never been in that scenario, but don't most planes pull up when landing? Or is it just the jet lag?

Pulling up just prior to landing is normal and is known as a flare it allows the main wheels to touch first and makes the landing smoother.

It is really safe, they do t to balance the air effect or the weight effect, you see gravity pulls the plane down, while the engine wants to stay up.. so when they move up and down in the air, they balance the effect. It also had to do with positioning,
