Nanna...one of the neatest things my mom did for her grandkids was to go to a bookstore and buy two copies of a story book. She mailed one copy to the grandchild and kept one at her house. Each Thursday night, she'd call the grandchild and read a bedtime story over the phone. The child could follow along with the copy of the book she had sent.

The French word for "grandmother" is "grandmere" - pronounced "grawn-mare" ("grawn" rhymes with "lawn"). A short form would be "mere" (pronounced "mare").
I'm going to be facing the same decision sometime soon... so I'm reading responses with great interest! I would prefer not to be called "granny" or "mammaw" or "meemaw", but I'll have to teach the child what to call me, and right now I'm leaning toward "grandmere".

MEME.....I'm 47 & have 6 grandbabies & one on the way. The oldest call me meme. I get a lot of public response. It's just a nick name what ever u might choose but one thing for sure, when your grandbabies start using it ........... what joy! (hint- every child needs a safe horizon).

We always had different names for each side of the family. One side is always Granny and the other is grandma. But I personally like Nana or maw maw. I hope you enjoy your new role.

I am a grandmother and my grandchildren call my Nana.
One good things about this name is that it is easy for them to learn to say.

First of all, congrats!!!
You could try the nicknames: Nana, Mawmaw, MeMaw, and Grammy.
Those are just a few of the cool nicknames you could teach your grandchild to call you!!
