I am looking to buy a really compact digital camera or a mini camcorder. I would like one that can do both still shots and videos...also is at least 5 mega-pixels.

What brand and model is a really good one, on a budget?

I would recommend the Canon S2 or even better the S3. These cameras come with a Canon 12X zoom lens and the ability to take full frame video up to the limits of the memory card installed. The zoom and big sensor size puts these cameras ahead of camcorders for stills and the fact that there is no movie limit size makes the choice is easy. Many digital camera can take movies but are limited to 10 seconds to 10 minutes max for any video clips. Toss into this the Image Stabilization and Canon Lens quality, it is a difficult package to beat.
