A Legacy Platform is an operating system ("platform") that is considered outdated (and no longer supported) by the manufacturer. For instance, WIndows 98 is now considered a legacy platform.

Barry's right. It's something you're still stuck with because a system for a particular job was built on a particular platform (operating system) that's gone out of use, but you can't ditch the system so you have to keep the platform. Like your library of Betamax video tapes (and, shortly, your VHS ones) - if you wanna use them ever again you have to keep hold of a big clunky machine that you can't get spare parts for.
