I don't believe there is a book as you might imply. However what distinguishes him is that he was a man of faith. He obeyed God to the enth degree except his discretion with Hagar. Click here for more info.

Honestly, you have to follow the lineages. As i "generally" agree with what the others here have said, the thing that they leave out, is that you have to follow the lineages that are being given. The reason i say this, is because the New Testament claims to not put stock in books with endless lineages. So many people are expecting God to come out and say "Hey Abraham, Do you want to be the father of a GREAT nation I am going to call The Jews?"
It doesn't lay it out like this. Abraham goes to Isaac, to Jacob, and so forth, you have to follow the trail of fathers. Finally in the prophet Zechariah it culminates, and they are called JEWS. Actually they are called Jews before this, but it is not until Zechariah, chapter 8 i believe, where you find out that the JEWS have it correct, NOT the gentiles. Infact, the text reads that the gentiles will have it wrong, so they must go to the Jews. But, At any rate, Abraham begins at the end of chapter 11 of Genesis as the name Abram, his name is later changed to Abraham in chapter 17 i think.

genesis chapter 11:26 through genesis chapter 27. the masoretes preserved the jewish scriptures with painstakeing care to copy every exact letter correctly and in it's order. that's the hebrew bible.
most translations of the bible into english today are translations of the masoretic texts. other than that the oldest thing i can think of is dead sea scrolls which have also been translated. there's also the greek septuagint which wasn't as painstakingly copied as the masoretic text. in places the masoretic text and the septuagint disagree. however, the masoretic text is the oldest of the two.
the hebrew bible is in hebrew and aramaic. aramaic was the language spoken in palestine(judah/ israel) at the time of jesus.
the new testament is from the greek language.
