Then WHY is so much time wasted in theological debate on here?

I don't suppose anyone has been converted to another religion but I think that lots of people have gained a great deal of satisfaction from being able to discuss their beliefs, and have learned a lot about the beliefs of others.

For example, I am LDS, and have come across many people who think some very strange things about Mormons (polygamy, can't drink coke, etc.) so I have taken great delight in being able to set the record straight. I don't expect anyone to want to join my church as a result of my answer, but I am happy that I have at least been able to dispel some myths.

Theological debate helps me explore my own beliefs. I have to probe myself to find the answers that I give to the questions asked in this section. I am the axe and this is the stone against which I am honed.

Because it's a way of hollering your own views without really having to listen to someone else's. In a true verbal debate, they would have to answer questions and give reasons for their point of view. Those who have no basis for their rantings, come here so they can just say it and forget it.

Probably, but you just make it seem like Christians are like a fish out of water when they don't have a bunch of gulible people to sway when they have to actually put their beliefs on the line.

It's interesting to see other points of view. It's not hurting anyone, just some good 'ole clean fun.

I have become more steadfast in my beliefs and have been able to resolve some conflicts in my mind by reading questions and answers here. It can be beneficial if you allow it to be.

Does joining the Church of Jim Darwinism (wtf) count as a conversion?

And just what do you expect to see debated on the "Religion & Spirituality" board, anyway? Economics?
