I'm in quite dire need of dental work but I don't have adequate funding to get proper treatment. I'm assuming, though, that my state medicaid won't cover the costs, which is very disheartening. Has anyone had experience with this sort of circumstance?

Medicaid is different from state to state, check with your state d to see what their Medicaid program covers.

The big apple and nJ medicaid cover dental. Not certain about laser which is a fairly new approach. Medicaid is a state funded coverage, so it will have to vary by state. If you are pregnant in NJ and up to a 12 months after delivery i do know they cover mostly as many root canals and crowns as a individual would need, i do know someone who wanted 12 root canals and was once approved, so laser probally can be covered if pregnant. The big apple covers a lot much less and if price an excessive amount of commonly only covers common extractions. And likewise depends upon if your state requires a HMO with medicaid. In the big apple, straight medicaid covers extra in fee.

M.H. is right - depends on each state. They all require that you have an exam first. There is usually "guidelines" that have to be met. In other words, hoops the dentist has to jump through to get it covered. That's part of the reason many dentist's don't take MA (medicaid).
Call your social services contact. They should know if it is covered (though they can be wrong) and have an idea as to dentists that take MA patients.
