My cat is stuck inside all day.. and he's one happy cat... He never goes out..He also has a window he looks and loves to watch everything...We've tried to let him out and he refused to go, and he's only three years old.

Yes they can.
Domestic cats are descendants of the wild cat. They still have a natural instinct to hunt.
Cats, like humans, also need fresh air too. How would you feel being shut up in a house/apartment 24/7?
It is even more frustrating if your cat sees many birds flying about and is unable to chase them. I am sure you must have seen your cat at a window with it's tail twitching, itching to get out??
You are not being cruel by keeping a cat in an apartment and It is a sad decision to make, but if you can find them a better home it would be better for the cat.

I had cats in an apartment for years and they were fine. I made sure they had lots of toys, and gave them plenty of love and attention while I was home. If you can get a cat perch or tree for the window , they like to be up higher so they have a better view of the outside.
It's good you have more that one cat so they can keep each other company. As long as you love them and give them a good home they are very lucky kitties!

cats are social animals as well. my cat was pretty traumatized because her previous owner was never home. and now she gets really attached in the mornings and at night when we leave her to go to the store or sleep. she constantly wants attention because of that experience.
so i think the main concern is if your going to have a pet you should be at home more often. otherwise there's no point and its not fair to the cat or you.
about being outdoors..yes cats generally like to experience a bit of the outdoors. my indoor cat got a small taste and now everyday she's in and out the patio all day. its really annoying actually. so if you don't want her to get used to it..she won't know what she's missing. window watching is still fun enough for her as well as other toys you can bring to distract her ;)
but it also helps that you have more than one cat. they can be each other's friend and playmate but you still need to decide if you can responsibly keep a cat when your home very often.

Give them lots of toys..but rotate them around..leave the radio or tv on for them. Give them cat trees to climb, hide cat treats or some of their kibble around the apartment..I had two cats in an apartment and they do just fine. If they have never been indoor/outdoor cats this is the only life they know..but do spend time with kitty/human interactive toys with them in the evenings for a while and its nice if you have a pair of cats so they keep each other happy.

Once cats experience the outdoors they want nothing else but to be out there. If you cat has never been outside then he wouldn't know what he's missing. If he was an outdoor cat previously then he is yearning to go outside. Try getting a kitty kennel if you can and put him outside in it every once in a while. Get one large enough for him to run around in. Maybe this will make him happy! I let my kitty's out but of course I have a fenced yard. Good luck!

You know I use to think the same thing about my dog. I leave him home alone while I'm at work. One day I video taped him all day. He slept and ate. If you have two cats they occupy one another. Get a cat tree and toys. They will be fine. When you get home show them more attention by brushing and special cat treats.

I've never had the privilage to own an "indoor" feline. However, if there is fresh air (windows), plenty of fresh water/food and toys, toys, toys, they should be fine. Also, some of my friends leave on their stereo's or T.V.'s. Cats are very independant (as we all know), and I don't think they would let us know if they "were" depressed...for fear of us taking them to a "Pet Psychiatrist"! LOL

As long as you don't have too many cats, you should be fine. I have two kittens and they are in my room of my apartment while I'm at work. I just make sure they have plenty of food, water, and toys before I leave. They seem to be fine with it.
