I took 75mg for a while, I'm not sure it worked for me, but I have seen it do well for others. It does take some time for it to work. It has potential to cause mania in some, but that would be an unwanted side effect and would be change, probably, if it did. If the same doctor prescribed the effexor with the lithium, it is probably safe to take. If two different doctors prescribed them, I would question their safety to at least on of them before taking it to be sure; if the same pharmacy filled them both, they SHOULD have caught any contraindications of taking the two together.

Effexor 75 mg and Effexor XR 75 mg. The regular Effexor (venlafaxine) is intended to be given 2 to 3 times daily but the Effexor XR 75mg releases slowly over 24 hours so it should be given only once daily. The problem occurs when the prescription reads Effexor 75 mg once daily instead of Effexor XR 75mg once daily
The order is for the regular product and not the XR. According to the Effexor package insert there is a small increase in the possibility of seizures with the regular over the Effexor XR. Even though this is a small chance it is still a concern and this error can be prevented.

A doctor who prescribes it for you should be able to tell you about the possible interactions between effexor and lithium and whether you need it or not. I took effexor xr for about a year and a half. I also took serzone at the same time. It helped me out of my depression.

I was on effexor 150 for 6 months and then 75mg for 18 months and for me it was a wonderdrug. It made my world worth living in again. I went off of it becouse many of my depressive issues dissappeared and I felt I could cope without meds. All meds have side effects and should be monitored as should interaction with other meds. Talk to your doctor or a pharmacist about your concerns.

Adults:
The recommended treatment dose is 75 mg per day, administered in two or three divided doses, taken with food. If the expected clinical improvement does not occur after a few weeks, a gradual dose increase to 150 mg/day may be considered. If needed, the dose may be further increased up to 225 mg/day. Increments of up to 75 mg/day should be made at intervals of no less than 4 days. In outpatient settings there was no evidence of the usefulness of doses greater than 225 mg/day for moderately depressed patients. More severely depressed inpatients have responded to higher doses, between 350 and 375 mg/day, given in 3 divided doses
Lithium:
The steady-state pharmacokinetics of venlafaxine administered as 50 mg every 8 hours was not affected when a single 600 mg oral dose of lithium was administered to 12 healthy male subjects. Venlafaxine had no effect on the pharmacokinetics of lithium. It should be noted that the venlafaxine dose was in the low end of the therapeutic dosage, as was the single lithium dose. The potential interaction of venlafaxine and lithium in clinical practice is unknown.
Precautions:
Monitor BP regularly. If a sustained BP increase occurs while receiving venlafaxine, either reduce the dose or discontinue venlafaxine. Pregnancy: Advise patients to notify their physician if they either become pregnant or plan to be come pregnant during therapy. Nursing mothers should not nurse their infants while receiving venlafaxine. Safety/efficacy not established in patients< 18 years. Activation of mania/hypomania. Suicide attempts in high-risk patients. Patients with a history of seizures, drug abuse, MI or unstable heart disease, hepatic or renal disease. Hyponatremia (reversible), inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion. Serum cholesterol elevations. Abnormal bleeding. When discontinuing venlafaxine after more than 1 week of therapy, taper dose gradually with monitoring to minimize the risk of discontinuation symptoms

No you shouldn't take it if you are manic, your doctor should have told you this. No it is not a good med to take w/lithium, most are not. Your doctor should have told you this. Why do you not ask your doctor?
