Thank you for the question. Recently I find myself beginning any response by giving a semi lecture on the abusive remarks made against either to the person asking or the answers given by others.

I sincerely believe that to gain wisdom you state your own belief in a very mature and sensitive manner so as not to offend others, whatever the topic is.

It is also very healthy to hear opposing ideas so that may allow you to investigate, analyze and come up with a proper point of view. the important thing is to authenticate your sources so that you may not be misled.

When someone becomes abusive, that gives an indication of bias, not knowing and not willing to know or understand. I could also mean fear of knowing because that might simply upset your whole belief or idea about an issue. That may be the reason that the level of abuse is much higher when religion and politics are involved. The stakes are too high.

Great question again.

Are you sure you mean the best way to "gain" wisdom or do you mean the best way to impart wisdom?

In any case, the Bible says don't rebuke a mocker or he will hate you. Rebuke a wise man and he will grow wiser still.

Limiting a discussion to one's own religion is like making a case in court without a prosecutor. It's like having someone just bring forth a bunch of character witnesses on their own behalf without hearing the other side of the argument.

Freedom of religion. Serious of periods of great doubt build strong iron walls of faith in the long run. I was a Christian for years, then went through a 2-3 year period of complete and total doubt in everything (clinging to Christianity for a year or so (but with a lot of doubt in it), then agnoticism for a couple years) before finally settling into a doubtful atheism for several years. Now my beliefs are very strong, and I think it was because of both the doubt and the experience of being other religions that makes them so.

Sometimes we forget what faith is. It is belief based upon non-empirical evidence. For many of us, our faith tells us to be "certain" and "sure". That often comes out in the wrong way. We are to be certain and sure of our own faith, with the type of certainty that faith affords. Yet faith, by definition, cannot be forced, and it is highly personal.

While we desire to be certain of our own faith, we must always be humble when we share that faith with others. Each of us has a different background, and have been shaped by different experiences, and therefore, come to different conclusions. We gain wisdom when we learn from the experience of others, and when we listen. We do not have to accept everything we hear from others, and therefore we must allow them that luxury too. Faith goes forward only when it is shared in the context of a personal and good relationship.

We can only share our faith as a part of sharing who we are. Even if that faith is passed to another, it will take on new form when it is received.

none of the above. if one would want to be wise s/he should listen and be open minded about others and be an example of humbleness and a gentle spirit. freedom of speech sucks because people abuse it and use it to hurt and destroy other people sometimes they don't even know. people should know how to respect no matter what people believes and religion should be tolerated or shall i say the followers of any religion or any belief should know how to tolerate themselves and stop using what they believe as a form of judge against people who has opposite beliefs than their own.
