A few miles isn't hard to believe for me. I have picked up dogs that ran over 5 miles for a female in heat. You might be surprised. Spay and neuter, it's far easier and way cheaper.

Well, I don't have any concrete statistics as far as dogs go. However, I was living in the "Central" Valley [California] near one of the ranchers raising "Bulls". Three of his bulls would break-out of their pens and run wild searching for the "Heifers"! They would be gone for about 3 weeks, and he figured they had covered approximately a 50 mile radius! Then when they had "achieved" their goals they would make there way back to the ranch (lookin' rode hard and hung out to dry!). True story, and ironically it was the same three "Bulls" every heat. He tried many different ways to secure them, but every time they "busted-out"!

They can smell her over a mile away. I work at a vet & we have seen some pretty torn up dogs that have gone to a female in heat. They tear themselves up on fences, get in fights with other males etc.... They will get to her !!!

Dogs have been known to travel miles to reach a female in heat.

My Dobies broke thru a jalousied window door, inside the house, and she backed up to the opening so it's not just males but the females too.
Also had an English hunting dog that jumped 6 ft. fences and had pups all over the neighborhood.....they used to call him the "Mayor" of the town! LOL it's true!!

Around five walking miles, or if you mean to get to them I have seen dogs chew threw fences or dig under them or try to dig through back doors for a female.

My dog went 6 miles. I felt so bad he camped out on the peoples porch all night. The next day he was neutered.
