nah dogs have personalities just like humans. They dislike things same as we do. Just as there are people that don't like doing things most people like to do, there are dogs just the same. Don't worry about your pup its just being itself.
Lol I never DID own a dog who would chase a ball..

Well he is getting older. He might get scared of cats or other things because mabe he cant see as well anymore or he cannot hear so well anymore and they sneak up on him and that might spook him. As far as not chasing balls or going for walks, it might hurt. Alot of dogs when they get older will have hip problems and jont problems. You might want to take him into the vet for a check up and they can tell you if he is in pain and prescribe something for him. Look in his eyes and see if you can see cataracks. They will be this darker glosssy spots on the eye. If he has those he cannot see good anymore. One trick for the ears incase he canot hear to well. If a dog is around cats they can get ear mites really bad and it will reduce their hearing. Take some peroxide and tip his head to the side and ours some in, cover his ear over top the entrance of the ear,a dn work it around it ciecles they watch out and let him shake his head after that. It sounds silly but it works!

It's not unnatural, the dog is just laid back I guess you could say. I have a 8 year old female Mountain Feist and she has never liked to play or do things outside and she is VERY afraid of other dogs and cats. This isn't typical at all for her breed, but that's just her. Some dogs like to play and other don't. There's nothing wrong with your dog.

Your dog is stressed. It is obvious that the dog has taken on more than it can handle in your home. I am talking about the fact that your dog believes that it is the responsible for the "pack" (your family). If you follow the simple steps laid out for you in "Amichein Bonding" you will find that your dog will relax and start to enjoy chasing balls and going for walks.
Just try it there is no harm.

Why do some people like watching TV and some others like playing sports? Because they have a different personality. Same goes for dogs. I have two beagles. One is a smart, outgoing one. The other...my favorite by the way...is not the most intelligent and he is about as sedentary as a rock...not really, but he's pretty lazy. It's all in what kind of personality they've got. That's just the luck of the draw.

i have 12 dogs they each do different things. just cause dogs in movies chase balls and cats doesn't mean they all do. the reason it doesn't want to go for walks is it might not want to leave is territory. it may feel that another dog will move in

Doesn't sound unnatural at all, that would be normal for a submissive dog that didn't learn how to play as a pup. In a wolf pack it would be his job to guard the pups at the den site while the others go hunting. They'd bring back food for him and the pups.

Not unnatural at all. Every dog or cat or whatever has it's own personality quirks. Just roll with it. Don't worry about it. I have handled hundreds of dogs and every single one was different in one way or another.

you do not say how old your dog is, but if it is over 8 then it may be suffering from arthiritis. Does it have trouble getting up after lying, down/stiff? if its lost interest in things it usually loves, then it is probably in pain. Take it to the vets and get it checked out.
And next time, don't refer to the dog as an it! it sounds like you don't care.

Maybe because he's too young to see cats. And, you can train the puppy to chase balls so it can solve your wondering.
