some blood pressure meds may take awhile to get into the blood stream, and create a 'therapudic level' if that is the case, yes it will take some time. ever have a heart attack? if not you need to invest in Nitroglycerin tablets that go under the tongue to lower you BP to a safe level, if your having chest pain. As for the feeling awful, you will when your BP spikes real high. If your meds don't work in a couple of days, make another appt and let your doctor know. Create a BP journal to take with you and a list of symptoms and problems your having. Also cut the salt down in your diet and try to stay away from fatty foods. Its hard and not easy to reconize whats fatty and whats not. Good luck

Try talking less. While it's hardly sup rising that arguing with your spouse or fighting with the boss can make blood pressure soar, research has shown that virtually any communication can put blood pressure on the rise, Check your spouse's too.You have probably heard that husbands and wives start looking alike after several years of mirage, but researchers have discover an even stranger phenomenon. The longer two people are married, the more similar their blood pressure become. Do some mental math. More amazingly, the researcher who documented the hand
grip effect found that doing complex mental arithmetic (try counting backward from 100 by seven as fast as you can) elevated blood pressure and offset hypo tension even better than physical activity,Sleep on a slant. The way you sleep may also be important in helping control hypo tension, Try sleeping with the head end of your bed elevated 6 to 12 inches above the foot end (use concrete building blocks). On rising, sit up slowly and tangle your feet over the edge of the bed for a few moments before standing.

#1 important especially when you feel your high Bp may be from stress that you don't over analyse the reading. medication takes time to level in your system, depending on the rx this could take at least a couple of days to a week.
#2 i suggest taking your pressure only before your medication dose is due ( i.e. in the morning before you take the meds) Call you MD if your pressure is less than 100 systolic ( the top #) or more than 185.
#3 if symptomatic, dizzy, flush, headache , check your pressure and follow accordingly

Depends on the type of medicine, the most prevalent one to notice is a diuretic, but that is not for everyone. Also tapers off on the readings after couple of weeks.
Although I do know this, as one who had the same thing, it is common to all of sudden, start keeping a hyperviligance of taking your blood pressure, and that is not a good thing. If you must do it, take it max of 3 times a day, never after a full meal, as digesting foods will raise it a bit, be totally relaxed as you can be. When you put the cuff on, give yourself about 3 mins before inflating, try to clear your mind.
