All of that is true. But colocation is not guaranteed. And if you are dual military and children are involved, you are required to sign a dependent care form in case both of you are called to sea (it can and DOES happen). That means you sign your kids away to someone else so that you're free to deploy. When my husband and I were both due to roll to sea, we made the decision that he was promoting faster than I was so I got out at my 6-year mark so that our kids would have one parent around.

The navy's job is not to station husbands and wives together, but they try. And colocation meanse neither has to drive more than 2 hours to work, I think. A husband and wife won't be on the same ship, because you're not allowed to be on a ship with anyone with whom you could have sex.

You can request co-location, but they don't have to give it to you. If you are going to a larger base, like Norfolk, you have a greater chance. You won't get the same ship though! One person would have to be on sea duty, the other on shore;)

they can be stationed in the same area (called spousal co-location), but never in the same command....if children are involved, one can be at sea and the other on shore....it's kind of a bad situation if you ask me....and PLEASE tell me you weren't one of those couples who met in school and got married for the extra money...i know two wouples who did that and i am NOT wishing bad for you, it's just a bad idea....all the info can be found at PSD, go there for questions...good luck, fair winds and following seas!!
