A destination wedding is always cheaper. You don't have to feed 100+ people. Plus you get your wedding and honeymoon all in one, you can invite whoever you want but you don't have to pay for a reception because it's all inclusive. Friends of ours did this in December and it was fun. We got a 4 day vacation and a great wedding on a beautiful island. I don't remember how much it cost us, but it wasn't bad, since we got a vacation out of it. Not everyone will come if you do this, but I'll bet the important people (parents and siblings) in your life will come. Good luck

A small wedding far away on a beach is always cheaper. But your taking the chance that some people you want to share the day with may not be there. Also keep in mind legally you have to be in the city (ie. Mexico) 3 days before you can get married.
Also, keep in mind if you do stay home and have a big wedding your going to hope people give enough money to cover majority of the wedding.

Small destination wedding will be cheaper. My friends got married in Mexico in 2003, and if I recall correctly, their costs were something around 7k.
What are you describing as 'big' for a wedding? When I think 'big' wedding, I think at MINIMUM 150 guests, with about 6-8 people in the bridal party, not including the bride and groom. When you consider that feeding all those people will cost you about 5-7 grand ALONE, the destination wedding is the way to go.

Big wedding (or even medium sized) close to home because you won't have travel expenses and a lot of other extras that come up with a destination wedding.

They would probibly be about the same. Before you make these kinds of plans you need to make a budget and determine where you really want to have it.
You could have an intimate wedding in a tropical paridse with just the family, but you have to add in the cost of tickets, or the fact that some may not be able to attend if they have to pay.
