Child abuse:

Genesis 22:9 & 10 “And they came to the place which God had told him of and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood. And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.” It matters not that god let Abraham get out of murdering Isaac. To put a knife up to your son’s throat is child abuse.

I Kings 3:24-25 “And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other." This test was of course given to see who the real mother of the child was. Christians view this king as a wise man. I look upon his suggestion with far more revulsion then I give accredit to Susan Smith.

Proverbs 13:24, 19:18, 22:15, 23:13-14 & 29:15 God commands repeatedly that you beat your children.

Matthew 19:29 If you really loved Jesus then he insists that you abandon your wife and children for him. Only that way will he allow you to go to heaven. (That is if you meet his other hefty requirements, don’t slip through the loopholes, and ignore the contradictions.)

Mark 7:9 Jesus criticizes the Jews for not killing their disobedient children according to Old Testament law.

In conclusion I shall end this list with a verse that should keep the pro lifers in check. It is Romans 13: 1-7

“Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which god has established. The authorities that exist have been established by god. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what god has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he shall commend you. For he is god’s servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is god’s servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. There fore it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.

This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are god’s servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes, if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”

Clearly it is the job of Christians to obey the laws, and the laws of this country clearly state that abortion is legal. So too should Christians respect and honor that law. God commands them to NOT disobey, which entails attempting to get the law overturned. If god wanted abortion to be illegal he wouldn’t have appointed authorities to make it legal.

I don't believe in God, so....

I suppose YHWH isn't as "loving" as others make Him out to be though, eh?

You're not even looking for an answer. You are distorting Scripture on purpose, trying to elicit as much "shock value" as you can using your own words. First off, Isaac was a test.

The king was doing this to find out who was the true mother of the baby, he knew what the real mother would do. It was a clever way to settle the dispute.

Matthew 19:29 is conveying the picture that you are to put a greater value on Christ than on your blood relatives, to put Christ above your family. If I had to choose between denouncing Christ and having my family slain, I wouldn't denounce Christ, that I know.

As for your Mark 7:9 reference, how is Jesus referring to that specific doctrine? He was clearly referring to the washing of hands before eating food. Your logic is full of inconsistencies, you attempt to point out things that aren't even there, and you attempt to elicit shock value where there really isn't anything to be shocked at. Did Isaac die or take physical harm or be frightened? No. Did the baby die or take physical harm, or being frightened? No. You haven't even cited an example of child abuse, you are just making a very poor attempt at discrediting the Bible, God will not be mocked.

Christians should not obey abortion, because it is against God's will. Nor should Christians put up with evolution, because that is anti-God doctrine (and man's attempt at suppressing the truth). We are to obey authorities where it does not contradict the direct will of God. The problem is that our authorities are increasingly growing wicked, turning against God. We listen to God, rather than men. However, where the authorities do not contradict God's will, whether they are in agreement with or simply not something God is concerned about - we will obey, as this is what Paul is describing.

Indeed, our authorities still have a trace of heavenly establishment, the immorality of murder, rape, incest, you name it.

Of course, there is the matter of it being a democracy government we live in. We have the right to shape the laws as well, and we know God's will for men.

Attempting to overturn the law in a democratic society is not illegal, so long as one does it throught the proper channels. Remember, Christians are just as much citizens of America as everyone else, with the freedom of speech, opinion, and office. We may not agree with them, but we must not take away their basic rights. Then we become the conservatives, drawing lines where they don't belong.

As for the Abraham story, you're right. It seems like a terrible test done by someone who is very insecure. Still, we can't enter into Adonai and Abraham's relationship from where we stand.

i like the way C.S. Lewis writes it in the Chonicles of Narnia. A little girl, who is deeply thirsty, hears the sound of running water. She follows the sound to find a river flowing through the forest. She begins toward the river when she notices the Lion Aslan standing by the spot where she desires to drink. She stops. He beckons her to come forward and drink. She reponds something like this, "Are you tame?" Aslan replies, "No, i'm not tame, but if you don't risk it, you will surely die of thirst."

i love the idea that God is not tame. He is not the safe God that we want to picture him to be, only to rip him apart for this character. "If God is good, then why...?" We cannot fathom God, but we can know that we live within his creation. That every good thing comes from him. That if we have a sense of right and wrong, it must come from him.

To question is good, to cast judgment is beyond our ability.

God loves servility and infanticide.

He didn't punish Cain for slaying Abel, either, you know. He is "this angry, petulent old man that you worship," as Tennessee Williams wrote in his great play, "The Night of the Iguana."

Everybody already knows this and continues to worship inhuman cruelty anyway. After all, God isn't human. Never was. Isn't an earthling, either.

God knows all except for the choices a person will make Abraham had a test to see if he would obey God.

i'm sorry, what is your question?

in the passages, God is testing his children to see if they would give the ultimate sacrifice for him- if they would give up all they had for him. (and for the record, Isaac wasn't killed, nor the baby solomon talked about)

as for the proverbs passages, they are about disciplining a child- not abusing them. come on, have you ever met a child that was not disciplined? they would be a complete menace. discipline is necessary- maybe not in a physical way, but it is necessary

You obviously aren't asking a question, but are taking advantage of Yahoo! Questions to get on a soapbox and spew your opinion into cyberspace. Let me say this... anyone can take random text out of any book, and make it seem immoral or socially unacceptable. You yourself are unethical, taking Scripture out of context, and are exercising extremely poor exegesis skills.
