My cat is about 5 years old. For the past ~2 months she has been urinating in strange places (i.e. leather sofa and the guest bedroom's bed). I adopted a puppy in Dec of 2006 but she doesn't bother the cat. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO TO STOP THIS! I don't know why she's doing it or how to change things so she won't. My boyfriend says i have to give her away and refuses to let her out of the cage. I have had her for a while and I just don't think i can give her away at this point. PLEASE help!!

Your cat may well be jealous of the puppy- though I don't understand why the problem started only in March or April if that's the case.

You may want to talk with the vet: Urinating in strange places is often the first sign of illness in a cat.

Another thing you can try is re-introducing the puppy to the cat. Have someone whom the cat doesn't recognize as family carry the puppy in while you're petting her.

And another thing: If your boyfriend (who has no real claim on you!) insists on trying to make rules about your cat in your house again, get rid of him! I didn't with a guy I dated for a while, and lived to regret it!

You may want to speak to a vet, but most likely, even though the puppy may not 'bother' the cat, the cat may be bothered by the presence of this new family member. Make sure their food water and areas are completely separate. A vet would have good advice as to how to try and eliminate this behavior.

Sounds like your cat is "marking territory." It's bad, I know!

That is unacceptable behavior...please ask your vet for advice. Mine has been helpful in behavioral situations so I'm sure yours will be too.

Maybe your cat even has a medical condition, such as a urinary tract infection that is causing the problem. Again, your vet is the one to make this determination. I hope you can find an answer. I hate to see anyone give away a beloved pet.

It seems odd that she would pee just in those places in reaction to a puppy who doesn't usually confine their movement to places like this.

My cat had begun peeing in the places where my grandmother had stayed because he didn't want her around. Could you have had someone stay in the guest room for a prolonged period of time?

If not, I don't know what to say. Go to the vet, get a anti-depressant for the cat because sometimes that helps. The vet might have other suggestions.

Hmmm...maybe you should give your boyfriend away instead. Just kidding! The first thing I would do is take her to the vet. She could be urinating in strange spots because of a health problem. When my cats did that, it ended up being urinary infections. It could also be a terrirorial thing. Good luck!

Take her to the Vet. Cats usually don't urinate in odd places. It is usually a bladder or kidney infection. Good Luck. Don't Give up On kitty yet.

You need to have your cat checked by your Vet to make sure there is no physical reason. She might have a urinary tract infection or other health related issue. Also, check the litter box...does it need to be replaced?

Oh yes! All the time lol, it makes me jump up with fright and say sorry (cats name) and then I realise it is just one of the cats rubber balls that I am stepping on. It is so funny when that happens! lol

Keep your cat and try to train your cat again to use the litter box
