Yours is one way of looking at it. Ever wondered for each slave that made it, how many died on the ship taking them to the New world? for them actually to the unknown, because America did not even exist for them. Imagine, if you were suddenly lifted from your place (kidnapped actually) and taken to a destination that you did not know, made ot work long hours for improper food, clothing and shelter, treated less than an animal, more like a commodity to be traded, enjoyed maybe and then resold, your womenfolk, molested and raped in your presence-this is still the prettier part, when you look at the way the white man treated the slave, I really wonder whether you'd still feel the same, I don't think you would, unless you underwent some of the experiences yourself, otherwise you wouldn't ask such a Q.
I am no black or Caucasian, I am a citizen of what in numbers i the largest free country in the world-India.

The transatlantic slave trade had a huge impact on some African Countries. Had it not happened it is very likely that some African countries would be far more developed than they are now.
"The enormous destruction of human life caused by the Transatlantic Slave Trade is extremely difficult to quantify. The economic, social and psychological damage caused to African societies makes the Transatlantic Slave Trade one of the greatest crimes against humanity. It removed Africa’s young and healthy workforce, destroyed agriculture and industry and increased political and military conflict among African states which was largely encouraged by European traders as a way of obtaining slaves."
Also you should know that it is not necessary to walk miles for water in every country in Africa. Some are far more developed than others.
It is good that you feel blessed to live the life that you are living but you should be aware of and acknowledge what wrongly happened to others.

No!
Your ancestors paid the price though.... they lost their freedom, were tortoured, and to a degree, your people are still descriminated against for the colour of their skin today. Stereotypes are still alive and well. Try walking downtown at night with your own portable tv under your arm.
Just think of Hurricane Katrina..... they could have used the busses that were left window deep in floodwater when they could have evacuated thousands of blacks without breaking a sweat. Again your people were the biggest loosers.
I saw images of thousands of homeless blacks, (with just a few whites sprinkled in between) with crying children, elderly people sitting in wheelchairs, and without medication, many dead from lack of proper care and knee deep in contaminated water filled with human waste and bacteria.
If there is an up-side, Africa is now filled with aids sufferers and poverty.... is this because of the white man? I don't follow the news much, I'm concerned mainly with my own countlry...... CANADA, where many "******" escaped to on the underground railroad. I know Buxton was often a first stop to freedom here in CANADA, where we accepted your people as human beings and still do, we don't even break a sweat over such things anymore.
You may have a very good life in the US of A, but millions of your brethern are sitting and rotting in jails after having smoked a dube, and for selling it in order to scratch out the barest of existances. These people are the labour force of many such penal institutions, that pay them a pitance for long hours of work and a minumum of comfort while making a bundle for their jailers. Criminals for smoking pot my a s s !!! Just another way to increase the prison population and their labour force.... IT'S SLAVERY..... AND IT'S STILL ALIVE AND WELL!
I know it was just a movie..... but look at what happened to the charater "John Coffey" in the Green Mile. Two little white girls, raped and killed. The gentle giant was falsely acussed of murder. You can't tell me that this has not happened for real to some degree.
A black in a fancy car spells out "pull over" on many of your southern state streets. If there's a white dead man, and a black man is a number of blocks away minding his own business...... guess who's guilty if the cops have to look hard for the real culprit.
I don't care if you're green, blue, or pink with purple dock-a-dots. Racism has no place in modern society. I get my own form of prejudice, I've had a visable disability for 30 years.
Still, ask your ancestors the same question. They paid the greatest price for your ticket to the US of A.
I would suggest that you also cross the line from being black, to being a human being. Differences are what drive people apart, look at what we have in common so we can all live in peace and harmony. I hate labels!

And if the slaves were left alone in their own country and America didn't have all those free labor, and as a result America wasn't so rich, would you still thank god for slavery?

you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but my ancestors were abolishinists and fought for the freedom of the African Slave in America. One could argue that if the Arab muslim slave traders in Africa had not started this mess, and europeans had not engaged in the trade of human flesh, Africa might be a beacon of vibrant cultures that do not starve as you have portended.

No, you must be under-educated.
Do you know in what conditions the slaves lived and worked in?
Most of them attempted a suicide, and they kept on trying to end their lives if their previous attempts haven't succeeded.
Gawd...
