I lost a really close friend a couple years ago. God helped my through the pain. But also, I would suggest to focus on your future and who you are and what you want to do. (This is for after you feel you've greived for a while. Don't suppress emotion, take as long as you feel to "get over" this. Don't let anyone tell you you've taken too long a time.) Take up a new hobby. It sounds cheesy, but I worked through a lot of emotions with that by learning a new instrument.

I am very sorry your frend just died.
You should write by hand a note to the parents, telling them how sorry you are, and mentioning a few of the good qualities of your friend and good times you had together.
If you are really motivated, you might ask your friends for a donation in memory of your friend, and donate it to whatever non-profit organization would make sense.
Think about the good times you had, and be thankful for the time you had together.
It will not be easy, but in time the pain will go away.

find someone you can talk to whether it be another friend, family or someone who knew the person. There are various steps that you will go through take each one as it comes. You will go through a range of emotions which is normal. Don't be afraid to talk it's the best medicine..good luck
