There never has been a 'breed' of Jack Russell. The Jack Russell simply refers to a general type of dog. They come in all shapes, sizes, most colours, and coat types. This is quite different from the Parson Russell, which is a standardised breed with the KC, so they all look approximately the same. I have no doubt that Jack Russells will be with us for a long time, but given no breed standard, who knows what they will look like!

no. there are jack russells which are smaller with shorter legs and have just become a recognised breed with the kennel club. There are also Parson russell terriers which are taller and leggier and have been registered for years. These are actually less common than the jack, but they both originate from the same breed.

A group of the Jack Russell breeders are not fond of the AKC with it's emphasis on dog shows rather than preformace. When the AKC started to register Jack Russells they continued their own registry (and do not accept AKC registered dogs) SInce it was becoming confusing to have two gene pools with two different registries with the same name, the AKC change the name of their dogs to the parson russell. SO There are no Jacks with AKC but pleanty or Parson's (which were Jacks a few years ago) and pleanty of Jacks OUTSIDE the AKC

In America, the American Kennel Club has changed the name. In England there's no change.
That's just for registered breeders anyway. In reality the Jack Russell is a right old mixture of breeds, like a deliberately bred mongrel. Its a working breed so they need to look right and have a certain attitude and temperament.

Of course, the American Kennel Club just changed the Jack Russel's recognized name to Parson Russel Terrier.

Hi, this is false. Jack Russells are certainly still flourishing. We had a jack russell puppy brought into our Vets for first vaccinations only last week (from a litter of 6)!

Where ever did you hear that there is no longer a jack russell bread? There are dozens of them living along the route I take to the bus stop in the mornings - and some of them are very young.
