Why did Jesus have to die for us?

Please...I'm just trying to understand where people are coming from if they think there are other ways to get to heaven. I don't need the sermon/scripture references. Got those in church this morning.

This just stemed off of someone on the board saying that they're a Christian but don't believe in hell. I don't see how that's possible!

I agree, no point in Jesus dying if there is no hell. But then again, hell is pretty hard to imagine, and hard to believe in. People question how a loving God can send people there. But we have to remember, He is also a just and righteous God and must judge us for our sins. We just need to do our part in sharing the only true way-the gospel of Jesus Christ.

A lot of people aren't true Christians. They only believe what they do because their parents were Christian, they want to go to Heaven, etc...

They don't believe in Hell because they are afraid. Maybe the idea sounds silly to them, which of course it does. But then, if you think Hell sounds ridiculous, so does Heaven. So does all of religion.

You are right, there is great hypocrisy and lack of logic in the belief in all of Christianity except for the details about the afterlife.

For those who are saying that Jesus died for nothing if Hell doesn't exist, wouldn't he have died anyway?? Christians and others may believe that he was the son of God, but he was still human and mortal.

But it seems an oxymoron to be Christian and not believe in hell. Seems to me they don't have faith in their religion then. Hell is the fear factor of Christianity.

That is possible- and hell is just a place of 'eternal vengeance'.
