Sorry, the wheel has been moved from Paris in 2003...

The "Roue de Paris" has been lately seen at Birmingham, then Manchester, Amsterdam and finally Bankok.

I'm glad to see someone else had this same question. I was in Paris about a month ago, and I had seen pictures that lead me to believe there was a Ferris Wheel In Paris (close to the Effiel Tower). I knew I wasn't crazy! Of course I knew about the London Eye, but I was sure there was going to be one in Paris too. I had never heard anyone mention it before, though. Of course, it was it was not there when I was in Paris, now I know why! People just assume you have the wrong country, but you and I areboth right, it did exist at one time. I wonder why it is so little known.

I'm afraid you've got the wrong country...
The large Ferris Wheel is in London next to the Thames river, It is called the "London Eye" or Millenium Wheel.
I was in Paris in february and I didn't see anything like what you are describing.
If you want more info on Paris go to:
www.paris.org
and for London, if you want to check out the EYE:

Hope this answers your question!

There are occasionally two ferris wheels in downtown Paris, but none of them is permanent.
One of them is on the Place de la Concorde. It stayed there for a long time around 2000, but was dismantled later on and is no longer permanent. It is set up near new year's eve.
The other one operates in Summer in the Jardins des Tuileries.
