2) Murder, rape and pillage of the Midianites (Numbers 31:7-18 NLT)
They attacked Midian just as the LORD had commanded Moses, and they killed all the men. All five of the Midianite kings – Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba – died in the battle. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword. Then the Israelite army captured the Midianite women and children and seized their cattle and flocks and all their wealth as plunder. They burned all the towns and villages where the Midianites had lived. After they had gathered the plunder and captives, both people and animals, they brought them all to Moses and Eleazar the priest, and to the whole community of Israel, which was camped on the plains of Moab beside the Jordan River, across from Jericho.

Then they thought of the annual festival of the LORD held in Shiloh, between Lebonah and Bethel, along the east side of the road that goes from Bethel to Shechem. They told the men of Benjamin who still needed wives, "Go and hide in the vineyards. When the women of Shiloh come out for their dances, rush out from the vineyards, and each of you can take one of them home to be your wife! And when their fathers and brothers come to us in protest, we will tell them, 'Please be understanding. Let them have your daughters, for we didn't find enough wives for them when we destroyed Jabesh-gilead. And you are not guilty of breaking the vow since you did not give your daughters in marriage to them.'" So the men of Benjamin did as they were told. They kidnapped the women who took part in the celebration and carried them off to the land of their own inheritance.

I will answer your question in the manner you have requested, but I ask you to weigh every idea I reveal to you without a biased mind; If you do this, then you will see the light and will agree with me and discover how Good the Lord is: The Lord of the Old Testament and the New testament, they both are one Lord not two lords, and they are one God not two:

I will first begin to show you how just and good the Lord God is, Creator of Heaven and the Earth. From the verses you have extracted out of the Bible you showed how violent the commands of the Lord were when he ordered Israel to do what you had posted here above. Before then, did you ask yourself what that same Lord did to over 5 million Israelites, who saved them from the hand of the Pharaoh, and when the Egyptian went after them into the red sea to kill them, God stopped them from following His people Israel and they were therefore sunk into the sea by turning back the water as it was before.

Now while the Israelites were crossing the Sinai desert and after the descent of the Law of God to his own people, God commanded them to go on and take the promised land from the people who lived in it because they were heathen. The Israelites, however, refused to fight and they were afraid and they disobeyed God. The result of their disobedience caused them to wonder into the desert for 40 years, during which time God ordained a sentence against his own people and killed every one that escaped Egypt. God killed all those who miraculously escaped from Egypt. Out of the 5 million Israelites left the Land of Egypt, only 2 people among those who escaped were allowed to enter the Promised Land (The land that God promised to give to Abraham descendant.) Why? Because they obayed the Lord God. The rest of the Israelites (5 million), God justly judged them in the desert and there they died. Among the 5 million people, the two people who entered the land were Joshua and Caleb. Again why? Because they were courageous and told Moses that they were ready to fight and lead the people to conquer the heathen. Not even Moses was able to enter the land because he himself disobeyed God and God in return prevented him from entering therein. Now Joshua and Caleb along with those who were born in the desert were the only ones who entered the land and they showed great courage and they conquered their enemies. Before God passed judgment against those who occupied the land who were defiled in their deeds and their false worship. God had justly judged His own people first and the corpse of 5 million Israelites are scattered in the Sinai desert until this very day witnessing the justice of God almighty.

Now I am going to give it to you straight forward and you will no longer ask this question again because you will understand perfectly why. God wanted His people to exercise judgment against those who lived in the land because of their filth and unclean deeds, and because of their idol worship. Remember what God did for Sodom and Gomorrah? Did He not send two angels to destroy the two cities because of their filth and bad deeds. What the Lord God was doing as we read the Bible, which is totally written by the Holy Spirit, unlike what others say, God was all along these 2000 or less years preparing to have holy people in the land which He promised to give to the descendant of Abraham. Whenever any Israelite disobeys the law, he was judged and put to death. Any one who did some thing unacceptable to God was punished in accordance with the law. Why was He doing that? Here is the answer: He was preparing for his Holiness to take a human body that would suit his great holiness so that He will reign over the human race with holy people. Do you know who am I talking about? I am talking about "JESUS CHRIST" Jesus Christ was the God who gave the Ten Commandments and who ordained to kill all those unbelievers among His own people and He was to pass judgment among those nations who occupied the promise land. That is why God ordered to kill all these unclean nations lived in that land. He was preparing for his manifestation in human form among people who He was trying to make them holy because He himself is a Holy God. ALL the sacrifices that the Israeli offered in their land resembled the death of Christ on the Cross. All those million of animal sacrifices could not possibly redeem mankind, because it is the blood of animal. Animal blood cannot redeem man. Only a man without sin like Jesus Christ Himself is capable to redeem Mankind by his precious blood. We are now waiting for His second coming to rule the Nations and to reward those who believe in His wonderful work on the cross. Christ, after His crusifixion, He rose from death and now He is on the right side of All the power in this Universe. He alone can judge Mankind, because He alone offered his pure body for man's sin and died so that whoever believe in him shall inherit every thing. Nothing more can be said!

It frustrates the hell out of Christians when they are confronted with the undeniable evil the Old Testament God ordered. The best anybody can come up with is that, "If that is what he wanted, then it was good." "God had a reason."

When a person can accept that sometimes theft, murder, and rape is ok, if God orders it, then just about anything can be justified. It has never been and never will be right for people to behave the way it is described in the verses you mentioned.

Greed for land, resources, and power prompt people to behave like that. People often think God is on their side when they win. Doesn't make it true.

It has always been and will always be wrong.

I feel it must have served a great purpose that many people are currently unaware of. I do not believe that the God I serve does anything that does not have a great reason behind it; for the greater good of the kingdom of heaven, which will soon come to power over mankind both dead and alive.

How it makes me feel could continue to change based on what I come to understand in the future about such things. As for right now I think I understand that God had condemned the Midianites to die for some crime and his chosen people at that time were to carry out vengeance on his behalf for them. (Verse one of that same chapter.) It says nothing about raping the woman; yet it would seem to me that the woman would suffer the loss in death of their husbands and possibly sons.

It would seem that the woman were "raped" of their lives though; however. As far as I understand it was originally planned that all of the people inhabiting the land that was to be given to the people fleeing Egypt were to be totally annihilated. Such judgment against an entire region of people is totally difficult for me to comprehend; from a human standpoint.

The fact that we are all condemned to death because of our being "sinful" brings into perspective the fact that "God" was bringing a historical feature of humanity into fruition; as part of his plan for the future.

How I really feel about this idea of killing and plundering any people is like this:

The only relevance to any of this is all in relation to "God's" will for mankind. If "God" chooses something needs to be done such as killing; there must be a very important reason behind it.

As we see now, that the "Middle East" region of the world is taking precedence in the entire world's affairs relating to "faith"; religion; war; and so on; to me is only proof that the timing and placement of "Israel" in the past and present has been done by "God" for a grand purpose.

I feel it must have served a great purpose that many people are currently unaware of.

I feel fine with whatever God commands, but it is lucky for you and I that we live in the age of Grace and not under the law.

The people of that land were particularly wicked. It is not absurd for the isrealites to have done what they did. Nor was it absurd for God to command them to do it.

It also gives us an accurate example of just how much GOD hates SIN. The sins of those people were so great that God knew they should be utterly destroyed.

Also Isreal never raped the wemen, as rape is against the law of isreal. If someone had raped one of the wemen taken, the rapist would have been stoned to death.

The Midianites really pissed off God. Sounds like some classic Old Testament wrath-of-God stuff. Gotta love it!

First commandment.
You shall have no other gods before Me.
Second commandment. You shall not make for yourself a carved image; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God.

Moral of the story is, keep Gods commandments.

That is pretty self-explanatory. That is as God instructed them to do, so it was done.

The women were not mistreated according to the Bible (which I will not quote at your request.) The women also had some say so....again I will not quote chapter/verse.

The Bible is a history book -- it reports what happened, warts and all. That's the way ALL wars were fought back then -- but nobody in their right mind -- Jewish or Christian -- would advocate doing that today. You need to learn how to read things in historical context...

first of all, these are not the words of MY god. they are a history, mad by men and written by them. the Bible is not the "word of god", it is the teachings of the prophets of god as interpreted by men. do not confuse the historical writings of the early jewish sects with the actuall passages containing the words of the lord spoken to his prophets. the truth of gods word will only ever be known to those he speaks to.

Why are you mad at God??? He loved you more than you will ever know. you only say the things you say because you don't know Jesus. If you truly knew Him you would love Him like I do. He truly is a precious Saviour.
