Hey... question for you!

If you believe that Jesus died for your sins and you get to heaven by believing in Him and accepting Him as your personal savior, BUT you still think being good/other ways are ways to get to heaven,

Why did Jesus have to die?

Please...I'm just trying to understand where people are coming from if they think there are other ways to get to heaven. I don't need the sermon/scripture references. Got those in church this morning.

This just stemed off of someone on the board saying that they're a Christian but don't believe in hell. I don't see how that's possible!

I have heard of Christians who do not believe in hell. It is ashamed, because if you call yourself a christian and then do not believe in eternal punishment, I guess you are calling Christ a liar. Jesus has mentioned hell in the bible. It is mentioned throughout the bible. For those supposed Christians who do not believe in hell, they need to drop being christians, because Christ never lied.

If you plan on getting to the Christian Heaven you must accept The Christ as your savior. This is the only door into the Christian Heaven.

Jesus even said, all your good works are as filthy rags to me. Trying to get to the Christian Heaven by good works is simple religion. Religion is mans feeble attempt to reach God on his own strength and power.

Jesus said, I am the way...so we can assume there is no other. If there were then Jesus was a liar and his sacrifice was useless.

For best answers read the book of John in the Christian Bible.

Simply believing in God isn't enough. Even the Devil believes but that doesn't save him. You have to accept the gift of eternal life by accepting The Christ into your life in order to pass into the Christian heaven.

I appreciate reading your question and having you be open to other peoples' knowledge and beliefs. The truth is, or at least the way I've been taught, is that the only one true way to get into Heaven is by accepting Jesus as your savior and that good deeds don't have anything to do with the whole "salvation process". BUT, you are supposed to want to do good deeds for people since you are a Christian and God put you on the Earth in order to help people and witness to them.

Jesus had to die because all of us sin. All of us have messed up, screwed up, however you want to put it. He took your punishment for you when He was beat, spit on, nailed to a cross...all those awful things He did for you, and for everyone else. If He hadn't done it, there would be no hope, no heaven for christians to go too, but because he died, he made a way for us to be able to enter heaven...it's just a matter of the choices we make along that way that determine whether we're a "christian or not". Really, that's a stupid thing to say whether you're a christian or not...what people need to ask is "Are you a follower of Christ?" There is only one way to get to heaven and that is through Jesus' death, and your life choices that involve Christ.

You can be the kindest person in the world, but if you don't accept Jesus as you Lord and Savior, it will do you no good. A minister once gave a scenario on a man who died. He went before the Lord and the man's list of deeds were extremely long. He gave to the poor, gave money to the church and many, many other things, but God did not accept him into heaven, The next man had a very short list and God accepted him into heaven. Well the other man got angry and said to God. "My list is so much longer than his, yet you reject me, why?" God said, "Although you did many good deeds, you did not accept me as your Savior but this man did." Every man and woman throughout their lifetime will in one way or another be told of the saving grace of Jesus. Not all will accept or believe, but they will have that chance. It is up to you to choose life or death. I'm not talking physical life or death, I am talking of spiritual life and death. Life being heaven, death meaning damnation.

You may not understand this, but here goes. In Christianity, there is a concept know as original sin. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, the human race was sent out of the garden of Eden and into the world we know today. Part of the punishment for this sin is death. The Crucifixion, is an atonement for this original sin, and by it we are pardoned from the original sin of Adam and Eve. The act of accepting Jesus as our Savior can not be accomplished by just saying so. Accepting Jesus into our life means that we acknowledge him as our Savior and living a life that is compatible with his teaching. Because when one sins, one rejects the salvation that Jesus Christ offers. So, for example, I cannot claim that I accept Jesus Christ as my Savior and then commit murder. When I do that, I have rejected the gift of eternal life that could have been mine if I truly accepted Jesus into my life and lived by the rules of God.

That is a very good question. And I have the answer. There is no way to get to heaven by being good. Some Bible verses to emphasize this are, (and these are NIV) Romans 3:23 "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Jesus had to die because no matter how good we are, you can't get to heaven. Take for example a glass of milk. It is pure and represents God and heaven. if you take just a little bit of dirt and put in the milk, the milk isn't good anymore. The dirt represents sin, or anything we think or do that is not perfect. No matter how much more good we put in our lives, (or milk in the glass) the sin stays in there unless we let God forgive us and take away our sins through Jesus's blood. Another example is, lets say that in order to get to Heaven, you have to start in Florida, and in one jump, make it to the North Pole. Some athletes and strong people may get farther than others, but nobody can reach the North Pole. All of our good works and being a "good person" isn't enough to get you to heaven. Titus 3:5 says "He (meaning Jesus) saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy." I hope this takes care of your question.

Excellent question. Finally, someone who is really using their nogging for more than just growing hair.

First, let's set some ground rules. As an admitted atheist I don't believe in religion.

I accept the idea that a person (like Jesus) died for other peoples' sins, but who asked him to. I prefer to own up to my own sins and pay the price myself. Thanks, but no thanks. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

Furthermore, was it really such a sacrifice for Jesus?

I mean, if you allowed yourself to die for someone you loved, that's a sacrifice because you know you're never coming back.

But Jesus was supposedly the son of god. He "died" and came back, what, like three days later. Huh... some sacrifice.

I prefer to think that if you do bad things you will pay a price sooner or later. And if you do good things, hopefully, good things will happen in return.

That's the best we can hope for.

I think a lot of them think that it's not just believing in Jesus that gets you into heaven, it can help, but isn't the only way to get in there, and just because you believe in him, if you, say, murder, you still don't get to be in heaven. And I think others believe in a truly loving God, who instead of torture forever just denies them the gift of Paradise in heaven, and they just don't go anywhere. Why did Jesus have to die in the first place though? Why couldn't God have just snapped his fingers and said "ok, everybody who follows me is now forgiven of any sins" why did he have to put himself on the earth and then kill himself, after all, Jesus is God, right? What happened to suicide being immoral and wrong?

If they do not believe in hell, then hell is out of the picture. WHO AND WHAT SAYS THERE IS A HELL?

Is there a sepulchre hell? Is there a tartarus hell? Is there a Gehenna hell?

Did Sodom and Gomorrah go to hell?

Did Jesus go to hell? If he did, is it for bad people? WHO AND WHAT SAYS?

Will there be a resurrection of the just and the unjust? WHO OR WHAT SAYS?

All the questions about hell, applies to heaven. WHO GOES TO HEAVEN FOR WHAT?

IS THERE A TRUE SOURCE TO LEARN ABOUT THESE TWO SUBJECTS?
