The answer is yes and no. My mother was a cook for a college. And when I was young she did teach me a few things. I also, took home ec at school. But most of my learning was from reading and trying. I picked up recipes from people and watched shows. I have learned to cook from various sources but, mostly from trial and error and now I am considered the best cook my friends and family have. If you want to become the nest don't be afraid to try anything

no,and she was a short oder cook! My dad,was a master chef, and no,he refused o teach me. But they had a whole bookcase of cook books and since I loved to read,i was free to look if I wanted. My first dish was eggs, then french toast, and finally, I moved onto peanut butter cookies. I still make them, but I buy the dough. And yes, I have a selection of cookbooks, and i use the net to find recipes. I have not one,not two, but 3 recipe boxes, the latest just added because i coulnt fit them in any of the others... Yes i am a great cook, and no,she didnt teach me, she let me watch and take notes...( yes i did take notes, and to this day, I can't duplicate her sausage gravy recipe!)

When my mom was at work I would try and have dinner ready for the family, so I learned through trial and error and a lot of practice.
