She is deaf, cannot see well but is mobile tho walks very slow. We would like to travel on a 1000 mi trip in our RV---what if she dies on this trip?

My dog relies on me a lot, she always wants to be with me. I thought if she died on the trip that I could pack her in ice in the tub to bring her home. I could never bury her in another state. I don't feel good about leaving her home with anyone.

I would feel terrible if she died if I left her home with someone, I will feel bad when she dies but I know she has lived a long good life. But I hope to be with her when the end comes.

Oh, I should mention, the RV is AC, she travels and sleeps on the couch, we can't walk her too much, I have to lift her in and out of RV.

My second response, I fully agree with Jan H
It will defiantly be better to take her with you, she will be much more secure knowing you are there.
If, Lord forbid, she does die, she will have the one person she
loves above all others with her, so she will still be happy.
If she is going to die, she will die anyway !
I think it would be better for her to be with her loved ones than with a bunch of strangers.
And as you said, she is deaf and has poor eye sight, so she will probably just stay in her bed and listen to your voice and be as happy as she can be.
At 15 it doesn't matter where she sleeps, she is not going to be really comfortable. So the familiarity will be a comfort to her.
My old girl died at 16, so I know how torn you are feeling.
Take her with you, you will never regret it, even if she dies.
You will always feel guilty if it happens while you are not with her.
Grief you can deal with and get through it ,
but guilt.......................................

I was an over the road truck driver and my dogs went with me everywhere, even the old one until she was gone. I wouldn't have had it any other way. And she wouldn''t have wanted to be left behind. You know you dog best and if she likes to go with you, then take her. She would be miserable without you. If she passes on the trip then at least you were with her and there are vets all over the country and most of them will fit you in if you explain that you are on a trip and need to get her treatment or cremation. Doing what I did I went to vets where ever I was when it was needed. Take her records with you in case you need to go to another vet somewhere else. If you do not have them you vet can make you copies to take. Good luck, drive safe and have a fun trip.

Is the RV air-conditioned, cool, well-ventilated? Will she be able to stay in the vehicle comfortably?

Will she have to walk much where your going?

I'd rather have my dog die with me than away from me. If she dies while on the road you have a few options:
-bury her where you are
-take her to a vet and have her cremated, bring cremains w/ you
-ship her body home & have it buried there by a loved one

this is a tough one, how close are you to the dog would it upset you greatly if the dogs passes,if it would like me I think I'd rather not put my dog thru the stress of a long trip, like the one you are going on, find a good shelter and pay for it's stay ask to have them keep in contact with you should anything come up about your animal, also give them a phone number where you can be reached with a voice-mail box. Its just like a child going to camp. Only you know they'll be safer there than on the road with you.

A worse thought to me would be what if she dies when you're gone? :-( I would rather have my dog with me - where she can be in a familiar area (the RV) and with me. You might need to make some allowances for her but if it were me I'd rather have her with me than alone at home.

As long as she is as comfortable as you, she should be fine. My parents have a 17 year old Schnauser and he is doing really bad, but they've brought him up here on a 700 mile trip in a small car. As long as he was in my moms lap he was fine. Being old though, he migh get motion sick easily. But in an RV? I think she should be fine.

Best thing to do is to consult your vet. She is pretty old and if she is deaf and blind she may get very nervous! Do you have a relative or a friend she is comfortable staying with? Or, can someone stay at your house with her while your gone so she is comfortable in her own environment? Seriously, talk to your vet, they also know your dogs medical history!

Yes,do take your dog with you. If she were to die during the trip, at least she would be with her master who she's loved for so many years. We should make the most of what time we have with our pets.

If you love the pooch (which you obviously do) and are not on any time limits on the road, go for it....you have a close relationship there and I know you will only be happy if she is with you!!!! No matter what happens positive/negative you'll be better with her there with you.

Oh heck yeah, take her with you..No doubt about it! You would feel awful if she passed while you were gone.. Maybe this one last big trip will give you some great memories to keep with you when she does pass;-)
