Does it affect your trip?

Definitely!! I like to cover all eventualities, as you never know what might happen. About 4 years ago I decided not to pack to my usual standard and just take what I considered to be a "capsule wardrobe". On the first day of my holiday I realised what a terrible mistake I had made and it made me feel really miserable. We went to USA (Florida) where some people take an empty suitcase and fill it with bargains to bring home. I could never take the chance and do this because taking most of my clothes on holiday is like a security blanket for me. Also, I've noticed that other countries' fashions can be quite different from those in UK, and seem to be "behind" in the fashion stakes, which I find quite surprising, especially in USA. So yes, I will continue to pack everything I own!!

Sometimes I overpack and sometimes I underpack(if thats a word). I find that when I overpack I am more relaxed about what I'm wearing because I have more to choose from and since I have more than enough I will always have a back outift. Although many see overpacking as a bad habit to get rid of, I find that the inconvienence of having more to bring along with you makes up for itself with the amount of stress that is lost, knowing you have everything you need and then some.
When I'm underpacked I always worry about what I'm going to wear the next day, or if I forgot something that I really need. It takes some of the fun out of vacation.
yeah, thats all I have to say for right now.

Yes I generally overpack. But sometimes its difficult when you go on trips where you know the weather will be hot and you will want to change clothes twice a day, then end up not doing that. I don't let it worry me as long as I am not over the baggage limit for the airlines. When I travel by car or train I do sometimes just leave extra stuff in the car trunk.

Once in a while, I pack more than I need and some clothing articles just sit in my suitcase and take up room. When it comes to heaving the bag around and trying to repack it (why do I always buy so much?), I curse myself for packing so much.

I'm trying to pack light (trying to pack for a 10-day trip to Paris in just a carry-on), but I can't seem to do it. Carry-on would be so much easier...no waiting at the luggage carousel, no dealing with lost or damaged luggage. Of course I would have to wash my clothes a few times, but my back would thank me for it!

My mom has a huge red suitcase. This thing is the size of a small child. She stuffs it to the gills and then she has such a hard time with it. It takes two of us to get it out of the trunk. The luggage carousel at the airports is always good for a laugh or two...she has such a hard time...usually some guy will feel sorry for her and help her. One time, she managed to yank it off the conveyor belt and the force swung her around and she almost took this little man out. I had tears streaming down my face from laughing so hard.

But anyway, yes overpacking has affected my trip...only en route to destinations.

We always tend to over pack when we travel even though we try not to. When we get home we always have fun making a pile of the stuff that we never used during the trip.

If you take about 1/2 to 3/4 of the stuff that you think you need you should be in good shape. It's best to pack with a few days to spare if you can so you can take your time to thin things out before you go. Remember, in most places you can get anything that you might have left at home.

The only time over packing really affected me was when I was backpacking across Europe. having to carry anything extra in that case was noticeable.

Yes, I tend to overpack to compensate for the weather and so I have options when getting dressed in the morning. It usually doesn't become an issue, just a pain when carrying my luggage to the airport!

I always overpack. Why, I don't know. I guess because I want the same variety away from home as I have at home. I'm afraid that if I don't take "something", I will want it when I'm away.

Naturally, when I'm away, I never needed the extra stuff I packed. Go figure!!!

Girl yes, I always have a tendency to overpack. Because at the time you are packing, u can "see yourself" needing this or maybe using that but never even think to use it. Sometimes you forget you brought it. It backfires on me because with all that extra stuff you have to find a place to jam your souvenirs & risk breaking them or you have to shove them into your already over stuffed carry-on bag (if you're flying).

Well, sometimes. My next trip I I only get a 24" suitcase for two weeks and a small carry on. Too much luggage has affected trips by packing unnecessary things (blowdryers, way too many clothes) and having to shove everything in a car trunk. It's best to carry twice as much money and half as much luggage.
