A trident is basically a 3-tined pitchfork, usually though not always the tines are fluked, i.e. end in an arrowhead. The two outer tines may also be slightly s-curved and slightly longer than the central tine. It was the implement carried by Poseidon (Greek, Neptune = Roman) and also, traditionally by the devil.

A trident is 560 feet long and 42 feet in diameter.
They are black on the top and a reddish brown color on the bottom to help deter rust. The black paint makes it less visible from above.
