I was reading some answers from a question about loving God more than ur family and I red someones answer, they were saying yes u must love God more If you don't love God more, then you don't fully trust him and will go to hell.

Why is it wrong to love ur family more than God? Why does God need to be loved more than ur family? Why would he send u to hell for loving family more?

I always had trouble with that as a kid.

My understanding is that we only understand what love really is by understanding God. If we seek to know Him and we love Him most, we will love others to their highest good. We will love them better if we love God most.

Think about possessive parents. If they loved God most, they wouldn't need their kids to live for them.

Think of how many things people do in the name of love that are really little more than manipulation or efforts to control.

Loving God most helps us to have good boundaries and to truly love selflessly.

It's not that He needs to be loved most, but that we need to love Him most.

Well. If you do practice a particular faith, lyk if ur christian, catholic, muslism....etc. You are supposed to worship God meaning love him above all things. Sure, its nice that u love ur family, but u should always worship God. According to whatever faith u may have, God created the world and all the people on it, so therefore, if it werent for God, then ur family wouldnt be present this very day, nor would u have developed that much love for them. Then again, God is your family so loving ur family may be a good thing as long as u include the lord in it and still worship him.

Because God is our creator. We must love Him first. He also gives us a famiily. There is nothing wrong with loving your family And God is not going to send you to hell for loving your famiy. Do you actaully think that God wants you to NOT care about them? To walk out on them? Of course not! I love God and my family. It's just that God is number 1. It's easy to get them confused and to doubt yourself and who you love more. If your family isn't forcing you to choose, then don't worry aobut it. If at any time in the future that anyone should ever ask you to choose, then you will know that the person(s) never really loved you to begin with or they wouldn't ask such a thing of you.

It's funny how people would never DREAM of asking a muslim to give up his/her beliefs but they don't mind asking a Christian to do the same.

How do you measure your love for family or God?
There is an order for this and it is:
God
Family
and everything else.

It doesn't mean you hate your family or you're going to kill them because God told you to. What Jesus was talking about was using your family as an excuse not to do the will of God.

Remember the story about Jesus telling a man to come and follow him and he said, let me go and bury my father first. Well, his father wasn't dead yet. He just didn't want to follow Jesus until his father died. Then he would consider it.

It's called prioritizing.

Loving your family is easier, because they exist in understandable terms. God is an intangible, and love for a divine ideal is, by its own nature, different. The Divine understands our plight as spiritual beings having a material experience, so Hell is not in the cards for someone with strong ties to their family.

Think about this for a second. Do you truly love god, or do you out of fear? From what you have told me it seems that you are asking this question because you are afraid to go to hell for loving your family. As I once herd, god wants you to love him by choice not by fear.

I am not christian, and I don't personally believe what I have said above but I think it may help you.

You are commanded to love and respect your family members by God himself, so yes we can love our family and our Creator too. But if a family member tell us to do something that conflicts with God's laws, then we would have to obey "God as ruler, rather than men." _ACTS 5:29

on a god based religion system, you have to love and trust god the most, because god is the eternal thing which will always exist, but your family is temporal,if you give the priority to your family rahter than god, this can put you into a situation where you could do bad things to other people for the benefit of your family..

It's not wrong. You love God THROUGH your family. If anybody tells you to love something imaginary more than the people you love, stay away from that person. For one thing, their idea of God is majorly screwed up.
